Fines don't work because the money they save by hiring illegals pay for the fines, unless you raise it to some insane amount and then you have the problem of crushing small businesses. Jailing them would be a much bigger deterrent.

You can't expect us to return them to their native country, right? They'll just end up back here, further f*cking us. Do you have an alternate solution that a.) isn't awarding the caught illegal by letting him/her remain here b.) doesn't involve locking them up for some real period of time costing us $ and resources c.) isn't sending them back to native country so they'll just try again? If so I'm fine with hearing your alternate solution, as you can see I'm a very fair minded individual.

At least partially, yes. They have to pay to arrange smugglers, and they have to account for the possibility of getting caught, and they face tremendous dangers (heat, drought, criminals etc) to get here. Those are substantial deterrents. It won't keep all out, but at least it slows the invasion down.

Just make the penalties progressive...give them a fair chance to find replacements.
1st incident - $100 fine / illegal
2nd incident - $1000 fine / illegal
3rd incident - $10000 fine / illegal
Then jail time.

Have you ever fixed a leak? The first step is shutting off the water. How do you stop the flood of illegals? Take away the incentive for them to come here. If there are no job prospects, there's no economic gain to be had, so there's no reason for them to risk life and limb to cross the border in the first place.

Well, seeing as if it's the Repubs that are more so pushing this idea, and seeing as if they presently have the majority in both houses, they should actually put our tax dollars where, for the longest time, their hollow rhetoric has been about securing our southern border.

As Ironwing in this thread proposed, and myself in the past for that matter have offered, the easiest and cheapest thing for the Repubs to do is to pass new laws or amend the vague and useless ones that will effectively target these law breaking businesses that are willingly hiring illegals.

These new/amended laws should be streamlined with clear simple language to mitigate the excuse that businesses who hire illegals have been using for nigh on decades now: vague wording in the laws prevents them from effectively screening out illlegals and increases their chances of being cited for hiring illegals.

I'm sure those that are willing to have the gov't spend billions of dollars to secure the borders wouldn't mind throwing a few millions at partially subsidizing the cost of implementing and administering effective enforcement of those businesses that are now employing illegals, right?

1.) Institute National ID, including online verification system to check National ID authenticity (registration done via state DMV or local police station for free)

2.) Lock down border with most reliable means necessary for areas to be covered. Troops can be pulled from other spots in the world save for Afghanistan and South Korea and put on our border.

3.) Pass Constitutional amendment that as long as one of your biological parents are a US Citizen in good standing, you are a US Citizen. No more being born here to two non-US Citizens makes you a US Citizen.

4.) Once all three have been done (and not a second before), non-voting Amnesty 2.0 instituted for any illegals within the US. They are now permanent green card holders for the remainder of their lives, save for breaking any serious laws.

5.) Given #1 (and #4), heavy fines (based on % of gross reported earnings) for first occurrence, local county general population jail time for owner/Board of Directors second occurrence - no exceptions. Your company hires illegals, you pay personally. This will keep the powers that be in charge of these companies personally responsible for it not happening...they want to be coy they didn't know, that's nice, they can do that in jail after their cavity search.

You don't need to secure the border. Greatly expand the number of legal immigration slots to reduce demand to stay illegally. Then after the supply more closely matches demand, you can start raising the costs to be an illegal immigrant until they're high enough that there's no realistic positive cost/benefit for not going through legal immigration channels.
