I use either SQL or sequel. One of my old co-workers (laid off last year :( ) would say squeal sometimes.

I say S-Q-L unless I'm referring to MS Sql Server in which case I say sequel server. Personally when talking about the language i spell the letters.

Sequel. When people say S-Q-L, I'm ready for them to talk about global synergy next. Oy.

I hear Sequel all the time...but I still call it SQL and have worked with it for over 6 years. Saying S-Q-L will never make you look clueless.

I say 'S-Q-L' when talking about actual queries and stuff, but if I'm talking about mySQL I say 'My Sequel' because its easier to say.

Sequel is actually wrong because there was a database language prior to SQL called Sequel.

So apparently most geeks don't know any better. :)

S Q L is the only right way to pronounce it. Period.

On a more serious note, I think S Q L is really the correct way cuz in German, we can't just say "Sequel".

SQL is not a language. :D

Oh I've always used sequel.

Since this "how do you pronounce..." thread actually serves a purpose (unlike almost all of the others), I've always said "S-Q-L".

Umm, yes it is; a set-based language.

When I hire contractors if they say "ess kew ell" I know I have to check their references, and they usually have never actually worked with the stuff.

All the guys I hire call it "seekwull".

I just don't want to look like an idiot when it comes time for a job interview.

Wierd as hell.. i just had this conversation with another worker yesterday. Wierd...
