Why the hell does it matter? Typical woman overreacting over the smallest things. You better call her on her bday or she'll be pissed off. She sounds like one of those types.

omg save me from this hell

Where the hell are you from?

I'm from Canton, Ohio originally...live in Oakland, CA now. My parents are from Latrobe, PA originally. I think any weird pronunciations are because of Latrobe.

yeah people from midwest area say warsh lol. I dont but i was born/raised in ohio.

I have a few words that really drive my GF crazy when I say them. She says I'm crazy for pronouncing the way I do. Might be a regional thing because of where our parents are from.

So here they are, tell me how you pronounce them...

Full - I pronounce this exactly like I would say "fool". She says the U should sound like the U in Ugly.

Pull - Same thing. I pronounce this exactly like I would say "pool".

Appreciate - I pronounce this like the "e" is a short "i". She pronounces it like the "e" is a long "e". Maybe I'm a little weird on that one.

Thoughts?

Are you from india or something?

Yeah... you have an Appalachian/Southern Midwest accent for sure. 😉

My wife's family (Missouri/Kentucky/Ohio) talks very much the same way.

My wife has overcome most of her accent, but she still says "cancel" instead of "council".

I wouldn't argue about it though. For some real fun, take her somewhere in the south and ask the local populace how they pronounce; hog, dog or any other word for that matter. Be sure to tell her to count the syllables used too!

I'm a big fan of the word 'shit' pronounced in three syllables

She's right. I agree with the poster relating the problem really being that you are, in fact, saying a completely different word. I knew a guy who reversed pin and pen. So he'd ask me to hand him his pin ( I thought he meant nametag for work), and he really wanted a pen. There were other, similar words he did this with. I don't miss that at all.

You obviously must be a big fan of Senator R. Clayton Davis.

I don't know. My parents used to have me saying Washington like it was pronounced Warshington. After I went to school for a while it really grated on me to hear them telling me to hang up my "warsh cloth". *shrug*

Did you grow up in Missouri?

Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois don't do this... I know Missouri does, I'm not sure about Nebraska or Kansas but I would bet it's more of a southern thing.

i knew a guy from northeastern Idaho that said warsh
i live in missouri and i don't hear warsh around here, maybe that is more down in the ozarks or something

I pronounce everything like your girlfriend.

Additionally, tour rhymes with bore, and the same pronunciation is used for tournament.

Forrest, orange, horrible and Florida have the same "o" sound as bottle.

My former coworkers in Texas pronounced words like you. It is regional. The ones I listed are all regional as well - hardly anyone will agree with my pronunciations (at least on the last set)
