How do YOU pronounce "Mexico"

In the Iran thread, I was making reference to that. I contend that if you want to be 100% accurate about the pronunciation, you'd have to say it with the same accent in which they say it. That, in my opinion, is a bit ridiculous.

I agree with them that you need to make an attempt to pronounce it correctly, but the nit-picking needs to end somewhere.

They Mexican natives pronounce it "May-he-co" because that's how they sound the X in Spanish.

Actually, the X is usually pronounced similarly to an S and I joke with my wife that the closer pronunciation would be more like Mess-ico. 😛

I know Mexicans say "Mekhico/Mehico". But the problem is, that isn't how it's spelled in English.
According to English rules, we should be pronouncing it Mecksico. In spanish, the X has a KH or H sound, depending on your region.

So, If I pronounce it 'Mecksico', it's not out of ignorance or apathy, but because I am following the rules I believe are correct.

It's pretty weird because MEXICANS pronounce is with a "J" sound even though it is spelled with an X.

I'm from colombia, and there, the "X" is pronounced the same way it is here in the U.S.

I don't know where they got those 2 mixed up like that, but it was confusing for me as well! (maybe that's the way mexicans try to pass for americans...)

Which is why they should have left the name alone. They didn't have that problem when they were the California Angels.
