I haven't pirated a game since a buddy of mine brought me Wolf3d, and the full version of Doom on floppies.

That's only true in countries where the citizens are too poor to purchase games, such as Russia, Thailand, and New Zealand.

Funny how no one is choosing the pirating option tho cmon, this is anand forum and the users here are shall we say, very savvy. I think 75%+ are prolly fibbing about buying the games but dont/cant admit to piracy since on here a topic like that is too controversial.

Could be they just say they are buying them off steam/store when they actually buy them...

Either that, or the company's tales of developed world piracy are grossly inflated ;^)

 Get a clue about the world around you. If you think that Americans don't pirate then you're a fucking idiot. If you paid any attention you'd know that I'm one of the most vocal anti-piracy advocates on this forum.

Lol. Pirating is super cheap ;)

I don't even dare to pirate any more software after a sweet NBA Live 2003 screwed up my PC and insisted on wrecking my HDD (I have no idea how, but it induced some weird writing sounds that became violent)

EA - 1

Me - 0

Maybe they should go back to this DRM.

I'm all about steam weekend deals now.

Why would anyone buy a game on steam? You don't get the box, the manual, or the physical media.

Online stores like Amazon co.uk,Play.com,Game.co.uk.

I normally shop around for cheapest price online, prefer to have a real retail box rather then digital download version.

Digital download, steam preferred but not always.

If the game company is going to make me actually leave my seat to get their product, they ain't getting my money.

l33t speek y0 dawg...cracka cool tho uhuh. :D

What the poll doesn't include are the # of games obtained in a certain time frame [1 game per month, every 2 months, every week, etc]. I can easily afford 1 or 2 OVERPRICED games per month or roughly 3-4 cheap bastard games [which is what I do - I typically wait until the game is ~50% off the retail price.].

Would you say this is pirateering?

I see a game being advertised but there is no demo. Since I'm not willing to just part with $40-50 without knowing what I'm buying - I fire up the newsgroup or torrent, download the game, and play it for a bit [~an hour]

If I like the game - I'll either go to the local store to purchase a copy if I plan to resell it on ebay or buy a digital copy if it has good replay value.

If I don't like it - it's deleted and one more developer/publisher doesn't get my money for releasing a crappy game.

Call me old fashion but I still prefer store bought retail box. I like having a hard copy disk when it comes to games. yeah, I'm a dinosaur, I know.

Edit: I have one game that uses Steam. Empire Total War. I bought it at BB though. lol

PC Games I buy.

Wii Games I buy.

Revisiting old classics that I used to own or play (old dos games, NES, SNES, arcade) I pirate. (allthough I have purchased the requisite games (mario, zelda etc...) on VC.

That doesn't mean much anymore. You buy the hard copy of a game, and you still don't have it all. You have to hook up to the net to get some crucial bits. If buying a hard copy meant I didn't need net access, I'd get a hard copy every time regardless of price. Since you don't get squat buying a game anymore, it doesn't really matter to me.

Maybe convenience, or if you're a hippy, you save the planet by not having to run the factories 0.25 seconds longer to make that extra box and disk.

Store most of the time.

I hate Steam because if I am paying money for a product, I want the Disc and I want the box...

I rarely buy online because of shipping.

Godless, who published those piracy figures?

Just bought 7 games at Big Lots (FEAR: Perseus Mandate, LotR online, Jericho etc) for about $30.

I buy most of my PC games from Big Lots, Gogamer, or Steam. I'll also check the jewel case section at Target every time I go in; I've found a ton of great deals there.

I buy my console games used from Blockbuster; the one near my house always has dozens of games for each system at pretty decent prices.

There's enough unopened boxes and jewel cases in my computer room to keep me busy for the rest of my PC gaming life and yet I keep on buying. Why is that?

It wasn't always like this for me. I used to buy full price games al the time. But I got burned once too often.
