I've Arrrrred games in the past, but all the ones I did that I played for more than an hour I ended up buying later on.
So I own games now mostly from Steam, and a couple from in-store purchases or Amazon.com.

Almost exclusively steam (for pc games anyhow). I bought fallout 3 off amazon.com for the survival edition (waste of money) and wanting a guarantee that I could mod it.

Pretty much this. I don't play too many different games, but it's probably evenly split between stores and Steam.

I don't think I've ever bought a game from a store. At least, I can't remember the last time, or first time for that matter, that I went and bought from a store.

I've certainly bought quite a few games on steam though. Got OJ Box, dod, cs, dods, css, The Path, and Dark Messiah (which I got for free, yay).

Steam Sales

I've bought so many useless games through Steam because of their damn weekend sales.

Either Steam or Retail, I tried D2D once, and I will never do it again.

Some online shop suck as Amazon.co.uk/Play.com/Gameplay.co.uk.
They are almost always much cheaper than Steam and retail stores, although having said that, my most recent purchases have been Steam and retail B&M stores, but traditionally I buy from Amazon and the like.

Steam, GoGamer, any sale of any kind. Made a rule for myself, I will not buy a game over $25 for 360 $20 for PC. Doing this over the past year, I have a backlog of over 100 games that still haven't been touched..... saving them for a rainy month.

Everyone just pick pirating. Sorry but I find it annoying the way the OP asked this question. Why say "obtain" instead of "buy"? Seems like he has pirating on the mind from the get-go.

Where ever it is cheapest. Until digital download becomes cheaper than a boxed edition, I prefer to get a boxed version.

Goozex.com
Ebay
Steam (only valve or weekend deals)
Gamersgate.com
Gogamer.com

In that order.

B&M stores mainly, sometimes through online orders.

I don't buy anything from Steam except when there's no choice (e.g. Fear 2), or old games that have source ports so I only need the data files.

Pirateing is spelled wrong. Drop the e - Pirating

And why add that option if you don't want people to pick it?

I buy most of my games through gogamer and eBay.

The pirateing/pirating is trivial dude..... you know what i mean, its a forum

Maybe so, but if you can't make the effort to spell correctly (or correct your spelling when you get called on it) then why should I waste my time writing a real reply (rather than this one)? In fact, I was going to contribute to the thread, but nevermind.

I picked pirateing, because you said not to.

I buy my PC games through steam or online. (Either digital download or amazon/etc)
Console games are purchased in store, usually Best Buy or Target. Never GameStop B&M. I'll buy from GameStop if I order online though.

Have avoided Steam up til now. The prices/deals I see mentioned occasionally are tempting though. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a dinosaur as I like my physical media.

I utilize:

-Amazon
-eBay
-Target-
-Walmart
-GameStop
-BestBuy

Store, Impulse, GoGamer, Steam, Amazon, or really any way. I can't imagine there being many people who only buy their games from a single source.

Pirating.

EDIT: Almost every game I have is on Steam, except for WC3. I always lose my discs, so will keep it to Steam from now on I think.

I want a hard copy that I can install and play without any internet connection. Exception being MP games such as TF2, and even more rarely single player games such as E:TW which I really wanted but am still grumpy about the steam in the hard copy.

I also don't like burning things off as I find burnable CD's are crap compared to what you get in hard copies of the game.

This means buying from a store or ordering a hard copy online, usually form the game maker.
