How do you name your computers? *~!

I'm an IT Administrator and we get to choose the names of the computers after we build them. I usually think of names that go along with the computer users.

How do you guys choose computer names?

Sometimes I go by names from traits of that person. If they are tall, i might name it "tall*" or something like that.

songs. i name mine to correspond to what songs generally fit it...

but with pink floyd, you cant go by a song. it's the album.

so i went with The_Wall for this one 😉

edit:

my next one will probably be either Highlander, or Seven_Seas

However I feel at the moment. My computer is "1337mach1ne," another one here is "newhotness" after the Men In Black line...etc.

Do you have a "fatass" computer yet? 🙂

At work, we name our servers after LOTR characters. My predecessors were doing it for 2-3 before the movie came out and I've continued the tradition.

As for users, I name the computer the first character of their first name and their last name. That is, unless they prefer something else... which almost none care anyway.

I goof on celebrities, this one is named Regis Philbin. The girlfriends is Kathy me, oops Lee. Had a Bob Vila for a bit, too.

Actually, I've reserved a special one for my workstation (Dell Precision 420) Balrog. 🙂

My IS Manager likes Norse god names, so like Frey, Odin, Saga, etc. It's actually kinda nice, all four letter easy to remember names. Plus, there's lots of them.

Eric

My first machine I called Rocket because it was twice as fast as my parents old computer. My next machine was called Shuttle because it is a Shuttle XPC box.

Mine is called the Black Box because it's a black case. My little bro built his after mine so he named it the Black Box 2.0
