How do you Microsoft users deal with it ?

I run Linux at home, and Solaris at work.

I also have a work laptop that runs Windows XP.

All 3 of the Operating Systems have regularly occurring security issues.

For Solaris...I update packages about once a month to keep secure.

On Linux...I update 2 - 3 times a month to keep secure.

On Microsoft....I seem to update, lately, about 1-2 times a WEEK !

Just look at http://isc.sans.org/index.php. I read the SANS diary every day, and nothing pops up more than Microsoft based security problems.

Doesn't it just drive you hardcore XP and 2K users NUTZ ?

Until I get nailed, I won't care. I just keep it up to date as much as possible. It's been fine the last 9 years I've run Windows.

BTW, I get a report also... except the opposite is true... especially because there are so many flavors. Linux has more findings against it than MS.

MS has more security issues because criminals target it. Why target other OSes used by less than 10% of the users?

If Linux were used by 90% of the people, it would be the one constantly under attack.

So far I have never had a problem with MS and the updates aren't that much of a problem.

Linux at home? BOOORING.

Been running various forms of Windows for a decade without a firewall or antivirus program and have never had a problem. Smart computing > *.

Sorry, I only update about once every six months. Give me a CD with an OS on it that is as simple to install as MS, has as many easy user configurable options, and has as much third party software compatibility as MS, and I'll use it.

That's going to install similarly to Windows? That's going to give me all of my hardware compatibility as Windows does? That runs all of the programs on it that Windows can?

And I'm not talking about fixes, work-arounds, or software substitution. I want all of what Windows offers me at the moment. Will Mandrake do that?

lol, keep whining about a free OS. Oh yeah, I forgot, pirates can get Windows free too.

the misconception here is you think there aren't the same number of security flaws in linux or *nix that has features activly being added as there are in windows, the truth is all the os's have the same number of security flaws its just the media and the trades dont publish them as much, try signing yourself up for redhat secuirty emails , that list itself will mailbomb you everyday.

Um, yes, that's exactly what I said. What part of, "Give me a CD with an OS on it that is as simple to install as MS, has as many easy user configurable options, and has as much third party software compatibility as MS, and I'll use it.", did you not understand?

I want something as simple and compatible as Windows XP. If you can point me to a version of Linux that does that, I'll check it out. But I've seen too many software programs that say, "Minimum Requirements - Windows XP", and don't say, "Minimum Requirements - Windows XP or Linux". I've heard about too many hardware issues with Linux and having to fuddle around with fixes and work-arounds to get things to work.

I'm not saying Linux is bad, it just doesn't offer the user as much general easy compatibility as Windows does at the moment. When it does, if it ever does, I'll most likely give it a look.

once every six months? that sounds like a terrible plan for any OS....
