Even in today's society, with all our laws and taboos, women are still abused.

No, I am not a libber, just a cocerned bystander. I have a daughte who will be entering the "eligible" age soon and I am a bit protective.

I am an asshole, as many of you know, and I have one primary requirement for any boy who wants to talk to my daughter, ie. when you call my daughter and I or any other member of my family answers the phone, you will identify yourself BEFORE asking to speak to my daughter. If you do not I, and the other members of my family, will hang up on you. Yes, we will be just as rude as you.

End of story.

You lose.

Is he supposed to know that? I wouldn't automatically tell anyone on the other end of the phone who i was when i asked for a girl.

pyonir, when I make a phonecall and somebody answers, ther first thing I say is, "Hi, this is Asshole, may I speak to Whoever." That way the person on the receiving end knows who is calling and who that person would like to speak to.

That is how I was raised. It is also good business practice.

If anybody thinks my way is wrong then spout off. I am willing to hear you out.
I've never heard anyone say that on the phone. Only when calling a business...not a personal residence. You must be OLD fashioned. ;)

Yes, I am OLD fashilned. I expect the common courtesy of those calling to identify themselves. I understand that you younguns don't understand this concept, yet. You will one day when some guy calls, you answer the phone, he wants to talk to your daughter and you don't know who the hell he is. But, you will, before you let him speak to her.

I promise. You will. ;)

LOL...perhaps. Of course as I chamber a round in my gun as I'm on the phone with him...that may take care of it.

Get caller ID for Christ's sake, leave the poor kids alone. I'm sure any boy young enough gets really nervous when he calls a girl, even more nervous when her father answers, and pisses himself when he gets psycho-dad. You're messing with her social life, and she's gonna hate you for it.

If I look in her eyes do I see depth? If I talk with her do I hear her thoughts in her spoken words?

Plus I like it if she has a nice tushie.

Heh, heh, I hung up earlier on a little turd who called and asked if my daughter "was here". All the little tard had to do was identify himself and ask for my daughter. I would have handed the phone to her and everybody would have been happy.

The boys who want to talk to my daughter will learn. My daughter will teach them proper telephone etiquette so she can get their calls. ;)

Heh, heh, you kiddies amaze me. You think you are thinking or trying something new. Yep, it was new about 5,000 years ago.

In reality you boyz have it much easier. As a young man I was chased by mad fathers with shotguns, pitchforks and clawhammers. :Q Yep, I had more balls than you will ever have.

So if you have a son, and one of his friends calls asking for him, will you hang up on THEM if they don't identify themselves?

If you say Yes, you're just eccentric. if you say No, you have a bit of a double standard there.

Then I am eccentric. My son is older than my daughter and I have hung up on his friends, even when I recognized their voices, because they know the rules. I still, to this day, hang up on them if they do not identify themselves. Oh, my wife agrees with me wholeheartedly. We believe it is rude to not identify yourself when you call someone.

I hate to tell you this, but, no matter how many times you hang up on guys and make them follow your little procedure, one of them is eventually going to be fvcking your daughter. And I bet its the one who states his name first...

You lose.
If I get a call and someone starts by telling me their name, it's a telemarketer about 98% of the time. I'd hang up on them if they DID tell me their name, not if they didn't. :p
