Do you ask her? I tried asking once and she said, just do it, don't ask me, its embarrassing when you ask.

I tried just kissing a chick once after I asked for a good bye hug after our date, she turned her face and I only caught her cheek. Pretty embarrasing.

yeah...it's not something that you can logically compute, but more dependent on her facial expressions, body language....

Yes, and as a side note, do not ask, take charge and kiss her, she'll turn her head away or something if she doesn't want to. That can be pretty embarassing (uh, not that I would know 🙂), but it's better than looking uncertain and fumbling by asking.
 
yeah, unless the girl in question is inexperienced, it should be fairly harmonious. If you want to play it safe, just wait for a moment where it's fairly obvious that you're just hanging out for the purpose of each others company (eg: going to the rooftop of an apt, or a walk or whatever) and simply lean in and go for it.
 
If you want to go for the sappy, stupid, romantic way (which most girls, of course, will love), take her chin in your hand, get your face real close, look her in the eyes, and say, "may I?"

*winces at the horrible sappiness* I figure it's at least a script a no0b can follow that won't get him slapped, at least.

Its the fear of getting shot down that makes it uncomfortable on the first kiss. People say its obvious, but how do you really know? Do you start moving your face closer to hers and if she doesn't move back its the right sign (like on TV).
