I can't play any heavy games on my galaxy s5 for more than 2 to 5 minutes before the framerate tanks to like 5 fps. Even 2D games like boom beach will eventually get slowed down.
It seems nobody has ever brought this issue to light because nobody sees mobile gaming as something important, it's like "if you wanna game just use your PC" but gaming on the smartphone is just much more immersive for reasons I won't go into right now.
There are of course many "tech articles" that tell you how to cool your phone, they go like this: "If you want to keep your smartphone cool it's very simple! Just cut down on browsing and don't play any games cause that's what heats it up. Now please click some more for my ad revenue." That's like someone asking you how to prevent his car from running out of fuel, and you tell him not to drive it.
