it has your relative in its grip?

You guys able to deal with their changed status from what you remember?

I can't do it. I want to remember the man from my childhood.

Cancer is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a person.

I had a friend with breast cancer and an uncle with colon cancer.

One day they're all spritely and full of life. Then treatment starts. Surgery, chemo, radiation. Now they're bedridden. But at least the cancer is gone!

Nope, they died a week later.

Death is a part of life.

Except for games that have rules that specifically state otherwise, always deal clockwise starting with the person to your left.

I tend to ban them if I have the chance, but you're still here for some reason OP. Anandtech is pretty lenient, I'm still here afterall. :p

When I was in the hospital with the big C, the greatest gift I was a huge support system.
You can do it

Positive attitude and good support system will do wonders for anyone with cancer; I'm here today because of those.

We took care of my father in law for his last couple months before the AML took him. Or rather the pneumonia due to treatment suppressing his immune system.

While he suffered from quite a lot of pain, he still managed to keep his sanity and dignity. The last months were a special period of bonding and I have much love and fond memories of the man.

OTOH, I am convinced that infusion centers are just as bad as hospitals for spreading disease and are totally counter productive for treatment of immunosuppressed patients. In home care would have been best, but wasn't covered because he didn't require hospice.

It's sad. Diagnosed the following people with cancer within the last month:
1) 35 y/o with cervical cancer
2) 29 y/o with cervical cancer
3) 35 y/o with breast cancer
4) 25 y/o with testicular cancer

That's a hard job. "Support" for you.

What you have to remember is that he is the same person inside. The shell may crumble, but he's still in there, and he needs you.

You want an honest answer from someone who has gone through this? Remain positive and support them as much as you can.

You probably know this already, or not, but restricting your carb intake might delay or suppress cancer. Your body can utilize energy from different sources such as protein and fat. Supposedly, cancer can only utilize carbs as an energy source to grow. Therefore, if you limit or restrict the amount of carbs you eat, you can theoretically stop the cancer from growing.

You can read the actual study below. It's actually a study of studies that reviews a bunch of studies trying to see if there is any truth to restricting carbs.

Lastly, make sure you work with your doctor on a low carb diet if you want to go this route.

High fat, low CHO diets aim at accounting for these metabolic alterations. Studies conducted so far have shown that such diets are safe and likely beneficial, in particular for advanced stage cancer patients.
