How do you feel about drinking?

rasczak

Lifer
I'm trying to stay away myself, but I can hear the beer bottles calling me in the middle of the night. Must..stay..strong....ugh.

So how do you guys feel about drinking while youre working so hard to keep your body in shape?

Nothing wrong with anything in moderation.

I'd say I get drunk once a week (10+ drinks), and have 1-3 drinks on half the other days of the week with dinner.

The definition of binge drinking is consuming 5 or more drinks

As far as drinking while keeping in shape, it really doesn't seem to affect me. I Lift 3-4 times a week, jog 4 miles on my off-days, and box 2 times a week (i.e. I need all the calories I can get). If you are trying to lose weight, stick to light beers or straight liquor (vodka on the rocks, whiskey on the rocks, etc...). Avoid wine, mixers, and high-carb beer.

My workout schedule:

M: Jog 4 miles, box
T: Lift (chest, squats), Yoga
W: Jog 4 miles
R: Lift(back, deadlifts)
F: Jog 4 miles, box
Sa: Rest (usually my night to get drunk is friday night, so I am hungover on saturdays...)
Su: Lift (accessory... abs, cleans, etc...)

During the week i'll usually have a beer or two or a glass or two of wine/whiskey or something around dinner time.

i guess everyone has a different definition of moderation. This seems rather excessive to me, but thats me.

Stay away from the booze if you can, nothing good about it, especially if you are working out, trying to lose weight, etc.

A little wine with dinner is not bad though, but seriously drop the beer and hard stuff.

I only have a beer or two a week if that, and never get drunk. I don't really have to work at that, that's just what I would prefer to do even if I wasn't exercising.

I've recently cut down my drinking by a pretty substantial margin for exactly the reason you've called out. I would have 2-3 beers every night (even after workouts) with dinner just because...well, I like beer. It was causing me to have to work harder to keep the weight off so I decided to cut out all drinking during the week. 4 weeks later, I'm really happy with my decision.

From a health perspective, you should do nothing but shots of straight vodka! Lowest amount of calories by volume, because there's basically nothing else in it but alcohol. hahahah

Anyway, my social life and my workout life are always at odds, but to be honest the social life wins those battles. I'm 23 and in very good shape. If I go out on a bender and take in an extra 1,000 calories, so be it, it isn't going to ruin my physical shape.

Even when I was in college and drank waaay more, I still managed to stay in good shape. Not a big deal.

i get wasted once every couple of months.
every time afterwards, i feel guilty because i feel like my last workout went to waste since i usually get drunk fri nite or sat, and i workout the hardest on fridays.

I am muslim and I don't drink. My friends tried to get me to "try" it but I wouldn't have that.

I have never felt like trying it and don't intend to. I don't bash people who do drink, but I won't be around them when they are drinking to get drunk (aka most of high school)

I don't drink at all. Alcohol promotes dehydration since it's a diuretic and also hinders recovery for lifting and such. It just seems to give too many negatives for the, well to me, zero positives.

American moderation =1-2 drinks/day
European moderation = 3-5/day.

I prefer euro moderation myself.

I don't drink very often. Never by myself, and if I'm out with friends or at some sort of social function it's rarely more than 2-3.

I usually drink once a week. The last few weeks I only had a couple on the weekend. But last weekend I got pretty wasted. I plan to take it easy the next few weeks and I am starting a cut.

 Having read some of your posts on the subject, I'm rooting for you to stay that way too! 😎

I like to pair wine and beer with food, and I enjoy cold vodka neat as well. I try to limit getting in the bag to 1-2 nights a week.

I drink beer & liquor once a week now and if I feel the need any other time I have some red wine. so I drink max 2 days a week now

Thanks! Yes I'm much better booze-free.

I miss the pairing of the wine and beer with food...but sadly that leads to places I don't want to return...if only it could be just one or two. haha yeah right

anyhow I'll step out of the way. thx for the words.

I drink quite a bit, but I've been trying to cut it down, as it is hindering my weight loss (and my mental clarity and sleep). So I'm keeping it to 1-2 drinks a night, usually whiskey.

Thats actually the one thing im noticing about drinking as I get older (aside from hangovers getting worse, coming easier, and taking longer to go away). Even after 2 or 3 drinks I sleep extremely restlessly.

I've drank a lot, since I was 14 probably, I took a bunch of time off during my undergrad believe it or not, then started partying again when I started working. Got a bit out of control (getting super wasted every weekend for a month or more) and I took ~Sept 20 to Dec 25 off, helped since that is when I started training (haphazard routine) and it helped me lose weight. Lately I've been getting into it a bit so I'm going to take a month or so off. It definitely helps if you stop, but I enjoy it at the same time.

Rarely. I probably consume less in a year then what a normal person does in about 3 weeks...
