how do you feel about 12 hour schedules?

Personally, I think an hour or two longer at work for a couple days is a small price to pay for an entire day off.

only works for certain business ideas, people still expect you to serve public 8-5 mon through fri '

otherwise I'm all for the fireman schedule

I work Sun-Tues and every other Wednesday, all 12 hour days.

This is easily the best, most flip-out-like-a-ninja-awesome schedule I have ever worked. I hope I work this schedule until I die.

12 hour days aren't too bad once one is accustomed to it. I regularly work 12 hour days for 5-6 days straight. To me, it's simply a matter of how much caffeine I can drink to keep me going. I eventually crash hard, but the journey is fun. 🙂

That sounds like a good schedule.

My schedule, 12 hour days mind you, is awesome.

Week 1: M/Tu/F/Sat/Sun
Week 2: Wed/Thu

Since combined that totals 84 hours of work, they give us 4 hours of paid time off every 2 weeks since they dont want to pay us for working OT. So one of those 7 12-hour days is really an 8-hour day, but we get paid like we worked 12.

Awesome.

The awesomest schedule that I pulled included a 13-hour day followed by a nice 39-hour day. By that point I had lost track of both the day AND the time, and was pretty much a zombie.

Got a lot of work done, though. Then I decided that my weekend was going to start early.🙂

that's what I work now... we're moving over to a 12 hour schedule because my boss is somehow convinced that it will help him increase overall coverage.

my big concern is basically having to eat all 3 meals/day at my desk. makes it a little hard to eat fresh and healthy when I'm limited to what I can nuke in the microwave... my coworkers can rely on fast food and hot pockets, but I kinda can't.

4 x 11 hour days one week, 3 x 12 hour days the next

seems like an awfully long time to be inside the office

In a two week period 7 days on and 7 days off is a great schedule. I'd take that in a heartbeat, 3 day weeks rule.

It sucks. Say goodbye to Saturday night.

you're nuts. I do 12 on occasion at home with some breaks in between to do whatever I like and still it's too long to be on the clock for a day. I would say 10 hrs max.

the less days and more hours rock. Im trying to angle the chair to let me work two 24 hour shifts, with the extra 8 hours/week going towards extra vacation.

At least we got a day off, but then again you can only go to the PX and look at the exact same thing so many times :S

I'd rather a straight 12 then the 10 hour split shift I have now. I'm currently on the clock from 1330-1830 2030-0130. Given the choice I'd rather be paid for those two hours I spend waiting around to go back to work.

I think the best would be 14/12/14. Mon./Wed. 9 am - 12 am (with 30 minutes for lunch and 30 for dinner) and then Tues. 9 am - 10 pm (with 30 minutes for lunch and 30 for dinner).

..I work 4/10. 10 hour day is long. espec. on swing shift.

I worked 4/10 graveyard for over a year. Now that I look back, that was a very long year.

..if I have to cover for somebody else it ends up being a 70 hr work week. not good.

I would ideally want to work 4 tens or some sort of staggered schedule, it'd keep me from burning out and becoming too bored. This summer I would usually work for a good 10 hours doing day labor about three days a week, and it was enough to keep me pleasantly occupied.

My schedule is whacked out. 3 on 2 off 2 on 3 off. Switch from days to nights every time you come in. It could be worse. You get two three day weekends a month, work 7 out of 14 days. But the day night switcheroo gets old. If we worked two weeks off days and then two weeks of nights I would be a lot happier.

i work 12 hr shifts right now. I know it sounds like such a great idea but it is awful, i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Even though you get more time off that time is spent recovering from the beating your body receives. Also plan on doing nothing but eat, sleep, and work on the days you have to work. I basically feel like my life is flying by me and all I"m doing is working.
