I'd prefer 12s..I work 10hr days now (4/3, with the occasional 5/3 and 4/4). Working midnights, I don't really get anything done if I'm working anyway, so I might as well work a couple of extra hours and get another day off.

I worked three 12-16 hour days in a row for years. Loved it - of course, it paid a lot, which helps. Yes, you do nothing but work on work days, but then there are the days off. Awesome.

I worked 12hr shift when I worked for a Pharm company. I loved it. more days off and work did not seem to last any longer then a 8hr shift. Rather be at home more then on the road to and from work.

I work for State Dept and do the 9hr day M-thur and take every other friday off and then 8hr shift the other Fri.

Week 1: M/Tu/F/Sat/Sun
Week 2: Wed/Thu

Since combined that totals 84 hours of work, they give us 4 hours of paid time off every 2 weeks since they dont want to pay us for working OT. So one of those 7 12-hour days is really an 8-hour day, but we get paid like we worked 12.

Awesome.

must not be in california then :( i was switched from salaried to hourly, and this dun fucked everything up for me.

Sounds like it could be a very tough situation for people with kids who rely on daycare.

I have a friend who works 3 - 12 hour days and then 1 4 hour half day. His job runs Sunday-Tuesday with a 4 hour day to fill in as he sees fit. Starts at 8am and goes until 8pm on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. He just makes his own 4 hour day when it is convenient for him since thats all administrative work that he does in there. Sometimes he goes the extra 4 hours on Tuesday so he gets 4 days off. Thats rough for him so he just comes in some day for 4 hours.

That would be pretty nice. I would love to have 4 10 hour days.

A 12 hour day would get old really quickly. Although I'd imagine that the extra days off would easily make up for that!

I did the 4x10's with friday off for a while, it wasn't too bad...

I'm on a 4x9's with 1/2 day friday's now, just perfect imho

This is easily the best, most flip-out-like-a-ninja-awesome schedule I have ever worked. I hope I work this schedule until I die.

I had this exact schedule years ago at a previous job. You are 100% correct in how awesome it is. Having 3 and 4 days off a week is insane. Sure, working Sundays and having to crash early-ish on Saturday night kind of blows, but it's a small price to pay for having such a sweet, sweet schedule.

From a personal standpoint I think its great. I take full advantage of my days off. And considering the work force as it is now. When you are done with a 12 hour shift you are done, no questions. Odds are if you are working 8 hour days you are really working more then that. I normally put in 47-48 hours a week, which is typical.
