How do you explain why you were 7 hours late for work?

I work 60 hours a week. Mon - Sat 9-7 I woke up today at 3:45 EST, so I would have been 7 hours late for work? Would you believe that I slept through my alarm? Whats a good excuse?

depends on your work ethic, length of time there, attitude, relationship with your boss, etc. if youre a great employee and an asset to the company, just be honest. your boss would probably rather hear the truth than think your lying and playing him for an idiot.

I think I'm only an asset to the company because who else is gonna work 60 hours a week, for crappy pay, with my amouont of knowledge in the film field. Its only a summer job for me, so it'll be damn hard to find a replacement, plus I dont get paid over time.

Edit: reading this makes me realize I should have got a job at Costco for the summer.

f-it then. just tell him you overslept. he will probably just chew on you a little, and then let it go. especially if he has to take up the slack if he fires you. if he does fire you, doesnt sound like youd be devastated or suffer a great loss anyway.

Um most companies would fire you no matter the excuse. No call and no show = instant termination. Sure you called after seven hours, but unless you are in the hospital its treated as a no call/no show.
