I like across (one long row at a time if you will) since I break off the first few rows with the first few bites, then I can lift the kernels without busting them so I can bust them in my mouth. PS, I do salt only, no butter.

I eat it the same way you do. I can't honestly tell you how my wife eats it because I've never really noticed...or cared. Seems like kind of a stupid thing to harp on someone for though. I'd recommend you cut him off for a month!
