Jameson and a splash of water over ice please!

One of my favorites as well. For any good whiskey, its on the rocks with a splash of water. Other favorites are Maker's Mark, Crown, Knob Creek (when I've got some extra cash), or Old Grandad (FTW!). If its Beam or lesser whiskeys, I'll drink it with Coke, or just drink beer. My wife, on the other hand, will only drink whiskey with apple juice. 😕

I can't believe how many people drink it straight. Nearly all whiskeys are meant to be slightly diluted with water to be properly enjoyed:

"Whisky at proof strength anesthetizes the nose and sears the tongue, rendering you incapable of evaluating the sample. Almost all whiskies benefit from the addition of water which, with most whiskies, 'opens up' the spirit by breaking down the ester chains and freeing the volatile aromatics." From whiskey.com

For you folks drinking out of the bottle, get yourself a rocks glass and try it out sometime. Bloody savages..😉

I haven't in a while, but the last time I did it was Maker's Mark on the rocks.

I can't pick more than one? Damn. It depends on the mood I'm in really. Sometimes it's slowly and on the rocks. Sometimes just knocking a shot back. Other times it's with some coke or some other cola. And when I'm really drunk and not caring, it's straight from the bottle.

As many have stated, if it's a good single malt, neat or at most on the rocks.

But let me share with everyone an excellent trick to drink cheaper whiskey.

With GREEN TEA. And not real green tea, but canned green tea.

It masks the skankiness of cheap whiskey, and introduces a really interesting flavor to it. Of course, this will probably not be easy to find in the US. 😛

Used to be Whiskey Sours, then it switched to Jack and Coke. But I'll always still swig from the bottle if I'm outta mixers!

About how much water per fl.oz. is suggested?

Also, from your username... have you ever read the Tain? I've kind of got about halfway through it...

You're the first one to recognize the name, or at least mention it. I haven't read it, but intend to. What do you think so far?

Anyway, start with a good bit of ice and a splash of water to where the taste doesn't overwhelm your senses.. As you develop a taste for it, use less ice, less water. According to the "experts" it shouldn't even be chilled, but I haven't really developed that kind of a taste for it.. yet.

Basically, add the amount that you think makes the whiskey taste best. Not overwhelming, and not watered down.

The amount will also always depend on the quality and strength.
