How do you create a smoothy?

An Omega juicer is the way to go for cold-pressed juice. I was going to harvest some of my Swiss Chard tonight to go with some ginger in a juice tomorrow. I actually prefer to use the Vitamix for nut milk, but for green juice nothing beats the Omega and nothing in the health universe is effective as greens juice.

1. ice (hard man-ice, not barely frozen girlyman ice)
2. the type of blade used
3. thickener (generally, some corn-starch liquid, or some protein powder for the modern hulk-man)

The cashew cheesecake was pretty good:

I didn't think that only flavoring it with maple syrup would be sweet enough, but it was pretty decent. Another 10% of something, maybe powdered sugar in the filling, would make it awesome.

Found a cookie recipe using cashew butter that is similar to the PB cookie recipe I use (egg, PB, sugar):

http://theviewfromgreatisland.com/2014/02/flourless-cashew-butter-chocolate-chip-cookies.html

I mixed some honey into my cashew butter to make it into cookie dough & thought hey, I bet this would be an excellent cookie! So I started out with that recipe & also threw in half an avocado for extra fat & creaminess and some tapioca flour to hold it together (I have a weird pantry)...I've been doing chocolate cookies with avocados lately & they are actually pretty great:

Guess I'll find out how they are shortly...

Yeah so they actually came out awesome:

Not 100% sure of what amounts I put in, something like:

1 cup Cashew Butter
1 egg
3/4 cup Sugar
3 Tpbs Honey (would probably omit next time, already had it mixed up for the cashew cookie dough treat)
Tapioca flour (maybe 1/4c?)
1 tbps Baking Soda
1/2 Avocado (small or medium)
1 cup mini dark chocolate chips

I cooked it at 350F for like 13 minutes, but I'd do it again at 325F because it got brown too fast. I also had to freeze the dough for a bit to firm it up since it was pretty goopy, but the frozen cookie dough balls spread out nicely & puffed out during baking, then flattened down when cooling. Pretty tasty, definitely would make again. Need to tweak the bake temp & ingredient quantities to nail it down to a recipe. Decently healthy too - egg, cashews, and avocado (to balance out the chocolate & sugar, haha).

Made some juice just now. Mango, Asian pear, kale, and cherimoya. Went well with the fried rice I made (vegan).
Not hard to turn any juice into smoothie. Just add milk (or in my case, soy, almond or coconut milk, which I actually like better than milk, anyway) and banana, and blend in a blender. Chill and enjoy. 🙂

Do any of you add a little lime to your smoothies?

Whenever we taste BlendTec/Vitamix demos and they do this, drives me my wife crazy. I personally like it.

I love picking on the Vitamix dudes at Costco.

Why is your blender so expensive? I have a much cheaper one that can do the same thing.

"Can your blender do this?"

Yep.

"Oh? Well how about this!"

Yar, that too...

"Well certainly it cant do this!"

Yes it can. And mine isn't some cheap plastic that can break or will leach chemicals.

"Our plastic is indestructible and doesn't leech chemicals!"

How long have you worked with thermal injection molded plastics? Do you even know the molecular composition of the material? Even the PTFE seals of your blenders have been shown to flake off into food. Do you know what PTFE stands for? Polytetrafluoroethylene, it's a synthetic carbon fluorine based thermoplastic.

"Uh..."

I know, you're just a salesman and don't really know anything about your product.

"I'm going to ask that you leave now sir."

Lulz...I don't even have to know what the hell I'm saying, just pull crap outta my ass to give them a hard time. I don't know what it is, but I only pick on them specifically...not one of the others. My mom has on of their blenders, and she seems to think it's O.K. We both hate the shape of the jar though. Its a massive steaming pile of shat. The 4 or 5 sided Blendtech jars are far superior. And I wish they would make stainless steel jars like they used to. Sure you pussies need a clear jar to look at all the pretty colors...but there should be an option for men, who just need to blend the shit out of stuff. I want stainless steel dammit. And a big jar to, like 128oz...not these wimpy 48oz crap things.

My god, you do come off like an elitist tard.
Can your blender completely crush seeds from berries? That's the main difference I notice about the vitamix. When I drink berry smoothies from the Vitamix, it's perfectly smooth. When I use a standard classic blender, like the Osterizer, I find myself needing to chew on the seeds when I have the smoothie.

I don't own a blender lol.
I do have some rocks though, and I use them for pillows too.

I'm pretty sure you typed something, but all I saw was "I'm a jackass and a troll, I'm only interested in making people angry, and I have literally nothing of value to contribute to this thread." I don't own a Vitamix, so maybe there's some pamphlet that I'm missing out on that makes your comment something other than the lowest form of trolling fucktardery, but otherwise, I'm going to have to go with a "fuck you" sir. Stop being an asshole "jus' cuz." It's bad for your health.

banana
frozen berry mix
regular yogurt
milk
protein powder

however, this has a lot of sugar so i only make it after intense exercise.

Made these Thursday afternoon. Sipping on orange one now. Juiced the fruit/greens, then I added light agave nectar to both of them, since I used unsweetened "milk" for about half the volume.

One on the left is mint (a bunch), a pint of strawberries, about 3 cups of kale, 2 kiwis, and a little under half a liter of almond milk (the jars are liter sized).

The one on the right is one mango, one orange, three carrots, and a little under half a liter of coconut milk.

Both turned out very delicious. I was expecting the mint one to turn out more astringent, but actually it was milder and more refreshing than pronounced.

Lime? Hmm, that sounds pretty good...I've been working with lime a lot lately. Lime & cilantro.

If you give it a shot, let us know how it tastes.

I have 230 smoothies remaining for the year, will definitely give it a shot   (365 days - (12) 24-hour fasting days - 123 days into the year)

I'm thinking a coconut-lime one, and a raspberry-lime. Pineapple-lime would probably work pretty well too.

First smoothie ever in our Blendtec that was delivered last night. Just used stuff we had laying around.

1 cup orange juice, 1 fresh mango, 1 fresh sapodilla; 1 fresh orange, some frozen blackberry, 1 cup ice. Kids loved it. Will start adding in greens as I figure out what I'm doing.

Basically it turns the smoothie green (hence "green smoothie" - not necessarily veggie-tasting, can be sweetened with fruit but still be green). Just throw a large handful of greens in: kale, collards, baby spinach, chard, etc. I don't recommend mixing them, just do one kind of green per smoothie, and a lot of them actually add sweetness to the smoothie (even though it's a veggie!).

It's kind of along the lines of Jessica Seinfeld's "Deceptively Delicious" cookbook concept of mixing in vegetables into snacks & meals so you get an extra nutritional power punch in there. If you do it right, it doesn't really affect the flavor, but adds more vitamins & minerals than you would normally get.

Ya we have a juicer so definitely used to kale, spinach, beets, etc. Was just making a quick one with what we had on hand.
