You really want to convince him, bring home a pet and care for it. Preferably younger animal so that he can see that you've raised it.

I actually don't listen to death metal that much (I prefer more epic sounding stuff like folk/power metal) but here's the bands I like:

I recall one post wherein he stated (or rather, let it slip out) that he was in 8th.(?) Grade.

Read deeply into his posts, he clearly has a lot of teen angst & insecurities.
