After reading the OP, did anyone else picture the OP playing with knives on purpose to annoy people, and then when being told to knock it off, went to play GTA with the sound blasting on the stereo to get back at his step dad?

Then the step dad calls him on his shit, and he's like "WHAT? I'm just playing GTA and playing with my knives. That's what I like to DO. GOD!"

Step dad, I'm guessing, pays rent and bills so he can talk on the phone loudly as much as he wants. Your mom is biased so her opinion of you is not going to matter when you want an objective analysis.

Another piece of advice: Technically there is nothing wrong with liking knives and guns. Technically you can have whatever hobbies you want as long as you don't infringe on other peoples' rights. But a mature individual also realizes that whether or not it's done fairly, people will judge him to some extent based on the aspects of his personality that he displays. If you play up the metal, guns, and knives in real life as much as you've done in the OP, most people will probably think you are another weirdo Columbine kid waiting to happen. I'm not saying that's a correct conclusion to jump to, just that that's how it is. People generally look upon knives and guns as a hobby that only criminals, and maladjusted, anti-social, homicidal maniacs take interest in.

If you want to progress in the world you are going to have to learn to pick and choose your battles. If you like guns and knives so much that you can't give them up, keep your interest in them to yourself. You don't need to publicize it. Same with your metal music. You don't have to be "in your face" about your interests to those around you. And if you want to improve your social skills in order to make it further in life, and succeed in whatever it is you choose to do, you will have to learn to present the friendly, "PG" side of yourself to others when necessary (such as in the workplace, or at school).

It's a simple choice: play up the violent interests, and people will think you're a dangerous maniac; downplay your violent interests, and play up your more socially acceptable side, and people will have less of a problem with you. You're free to still be just as into guns and knives and metal as you are now, and you can even find others who have the same interests who you can talk to about those things. Social skills, my brotha.

Here's what I would do:

1. punch him in the face
2. Tell him I'm not a violet sociopath immediately afterward
3. go back to playing GTA
4. ...
5. PROFIT

you blame yoru faults on your stepdad, rather than yourself.

"librul" has nothing to do with it.

have a beer with him and chat.

easy peasy. stop being a conservative douche, basically. all your problems will be solved.

granted, if they have too much Berkeley in them, it may be hopeless. in that case, he might need a 5.56 to the head.

:hmm:

This can be solved 2 ways

1.)An emotionally charged confrontation with step father

OR

2.)A man to man sit down and chat.

You can't change how your stepfather sees the world or YOU. He can't change what you enjoy versus what he perceives to be deviant behavior. Seriously, apologize, and explain yourself, ask him why he thinks these things of you. I am not suggesting that you back down, but the both of you need to come to a gentleman's agreement.

AND DON'T get your mother involved, then she has to chose, and that is not fair to her.

Bottom line............until you prove to stepdad you are not a punk kid, he will NEVER see you as a man, but as, well, a punk kid.

My stepdad thinks I'm crazy and need counseling :hmm::hmm:

Background:

Me:

I like guns and knives. I have 4 guns (one of which is a scary black AK74) and a collection of 15 or so pocket knives/fixed blades/bayonets. I also play violent video games and listen to death metal.

I'm perfectly normal. I don't even like killing spiders, I take them outside instead of squishing them.

Stepdad:

Librul. Self described pacifist. Grew up in Berkley. Votes (D) 100% of the time everytime. Union leader at a public school.

He's basically like HAL9000. Cept I have to live with him :colbert:

Problem:

I got home tonight and started flicking my pocket knife back and forth. My stepdad gets all pissy at me because "I'm making too much noise" even though he's blabbing on the phone 90% of the time he's home (he's the one making too much noise).

So I started to play GTA4 with my speakers on. I was driving around murdering prostitutes and listening to the WKTT station (conservative parody station, libruls don't understand it's a parody though), and he comes into my room and freaks out and tells my mom I need counselling. :awe::awe:

tl;dr:
My stepdad thinks I'm going to kill someone
I'm not
wat do

edit: inb4 "move out". I'm moving out in 2 months.

How about not playing with your knives in the house and use head phones when you play your violent games?

Rent the movie "Rampage" and ask your stepdad if he thought it was as cool as you did.

Chew on some alka seltzer and foam at the mouth while sharpening your knives or cleaning your guns around him.

I'd say it's perfectly normal to kill spiders. Thus, you are not normal, you're a nonviolent pacifist!
