Too damn tired to read through all the posts, but the way he's holding it in the picture is just a comfortable way to hold the rifle if you're not in the "ready position". Rarely have I shot the M-16 "sideways". The only time I've seen that done or done it is from a foxhole or 5-6' wall position where you fire it overhead withput really aiming directly at a target. (Less of a silloutte for the enemy to hit)

Oh and shockwave, the Army doctrine is that we would much rather seriously injure the enemy over killing........An injury means that another one of the enemy needs to go pick up the injured soldier. This results in two seriously wounded enemy over 1 dead one. The M16 is exremely accurate at 75-300 yards. Because of it's small caliber, it hits the human body and tumbles upon impact. The tumbling effect wreaks havoc for surgeons trying to operate and remove the bullet. many times you can hit someone in the chest and the bullet exeits or lodges in the leg. (Tearing up every thing in its path.)

Also there were other inprovements sucha s as the sights. Like it was said earlier the MAIN reason for switching to the M16(.223) from the M14(.308) was totally POLITICAL. The M14 is by far a more accurate rifle, more durable, and had superior knock down power, if you even remotely doubt that the .223 round is better, what do most snipers use, military and SWAT, it sure isn't a varmit size .223 round. Yes the .223 can take down a man, but it is not near the .308's ability. [/Rant] Anyway use this wonderous INTERNET thing here and look up some stuff (not on a game site) and maybe listen to the few people in here who were/are in the military and are beyond puberty.[/Rant]

You are a fool. Whats your background? Whats your experience with guns? Have you ever even SHOT EITHER of the guns being discussed? Aside from your follishness, whats the point of your post? To say I'm wrong? Yes, I am, I was tired. The .223 tumbles on impact, not in flight, thats the ONLY place I was wrong. Get YOUR facts straight before accusing others, and if you ARE accusing others, have a point. Debate 101, enroll in it my friend.

Now, onwards. No the .223 doesnt tumble in flight, but upon impact. Eh, I was too tired when i made that post. Yes, the .223 does more damage then the 7.62, due to the tumbling effect upon impact. But, for "brush busting" ability, give me a 7.62 all the way! But, I still stick to my earlier comment, a good rifle doesnt make a good soldier, and EITHER rifle in a skilled soldiers hands is an incredibaly effective weapon.
