I asked her out for movies and dinner for the coming frinday and she agreed. That I guess, pretty much confirms that she does not have a SO.

I wouldn't completely depend on that :)

Not sure I agree with you. It is all in public places and fairly safe, which is important to a girl on a first date. Especially one that has kids and been through it before. With a movie and dinner, there is some flexibility to adjust for taste.

What do you recommend instead?

well lets face it dinner and a movie is about as lame as it gets. Almost anything would be better.

A movie is boring....no interaction no talking .....and dinner can be awkward....get stuck for something to say etc etc.......I find that if your gonna do dinner keep it for a like the 2nd or 3rd date and if you really want to impress them cook for her rather than take her out.

so alternatives......bowling, mini golf, a walk trhough some shopping district, somewhere you can interact the whol etime and have plenty of stuff to comment on so you dont get stuck for what to talk about. Shopping.... girls love shopping have her come along and help pick a shirt out foryou and then reward her with an ice cream. Even some drinks at a local lounge where you can relax, enjoy the atmosphere and each others company. The list goes on an on. The key for first dates is lots of time to interact with each other in a low pressure environment at the least cost to you as possible as you want to screen for gold diggers and you dont want to drop mad loot on a girl that you dont care to see again or vice versa.. Plus you want to stand out and every guy does the movie/dinner thing........
