How do people run on 1024x768??

I use a 19" at 1152x864@100hz and the wife has a 17" on 1024x768. I'm fairly comfortable with 11x8. Any lower of a refresh rate hurts my eyes. Glasses make it seem worse for some reason.

I agree, refresh rate made a world of difference on my eye strain.

However, I wouldn't chalk this all up to ignorance/n00b status as far as refresh rates/resolutions go. You guys said it yourselves, 800x600 seen on a 15". Maybe some people simply don't have money to replace a perfectly working display...

That is all that his screen can possibly handle.

Our 15" LCD will provide that resolution at home.

Laptop has the same.

You run at the level one feels comfortable at or what your system will support.

It may not be worth it to go out and buy a 17" or 19" LCD to jsut get highter resolution.

 
i agree, its way to small i have a 19" CRT that i use 1024x768 on b/c my eye's are not the best i have a lazy eye and its so bad that my other eye does like all the work i run at 75hz refresh and i don't understand what the problem is to run at lower resolutions, its a personal preference and its easier on the eyes for some people, i don't even think you should worry about adjusting resolutions except for games (q3, farcry, doom3, etc). but thats just me.
 
A lot of laptops have a max-res of 1024x768.

Edit: I use 1080x1024 at work and 1600x1200 at home.

My DELL FP2001 is a God-send! I can NOT believe how I put up with a Sony CRT for so long.
 
My 17" CRT runs at 1152 x 864 @ 75Hz and that's what I used for years until the 16 x 12 goodness of the 2001FP arrived.
The CRT is still hooked up. Running duallies 0wnz. 😀

Which I could afford another 2001FP 😛

You do know you can change the size of the windows, right? :roll: And, uh, how many windows do you need open at the same time to fix a computer, mr l33t high res guy?
 
My 19in CRT does 1600x1200 for me. My 14.1in laptop does 1400x1050 and when it's in my office, it's hooked up to a 17in CRT that does 1280x1024.

I need screen space.
 
who cares, let people run what they want, i can't believe there is 4 pages of discussion about this nonsense. i run dual 17" 1280X1024 if anyone cares.

Agreed. I run at 1600 x 1200 for my 20" LCD and 1280 x 1024 for my 19" (dual monitors). Anything higher than that and its like trying to click on icons the size of pinheads.
 
I run my monitor at work (this one) at 1920x1440x75hz. Drives anyone who looks at it crazy, but it works well for me. It's a nice 21" Sony CRT. My home monitor is some POS (Amptron?) 17" CRT that I run at 1280x960x72hz.
 
Mom uses 1024x768 on a 19" screen b/c her eyes are terrible, which makes sense to me. I can't stand such low resolutions...1400x1050 on the laptop & 1600x1200 on the desktop machine.
 
I have no clue what resolutions I use. They're right for me. I can fit just about everything I need on one desktop. 😀
 
monitor is dying... 800x600 only so I can see. I'll be buying a new one... soon
21 inch so I can go to much higher resolution, and dual monitors (both died at the same time?!)
