there is no way anyone can argue that is an SUV rather than a minivan. a lot of minivans people call SUVs, like the honda pilot. but even gm calls that thing a minivan.

I didn't mean for moving. Just day to day things. You want to go buy a tv, grill, air compressor, a table, anything like that. Most of it won't fit in a car.

I can't remember the last time I've purchased any of those things you've listed.

I just bought all of that and then some, minus te air compressor and the grill (waiting on those for house warming gifts) We opted for delivery :)

Not all trunks are puny!

I used to pick up my son after work, at the loading dock of Sears. I'd see people trying to cram 27" TVs and what-not, in their little econoboxes. First they try the trunk, then the back seat, then the front seat. Sometimes they would give up, and other times they'd remove it from the box and try again. What a hoot!

You might consider a hitch and trailer for your car. It has the virtue of being something used only as needed, and can be detached when desired. Economical and practical.
Good call. That's what I'm gonna do when old faithful gives up the ghost.

Bumper sticker on my truck: "Yes, this is my truck. No, I will not help you move."

I want to buy a beater. I found a 94 4x4 Dakota V6 5-speed for $2500.

Anyways, yesterday I moved 300lbs of sod and mulch in the back of our MINI, and earlier in the week I moved 100lbs of sand, 100lbs of pea gravel, and 300 of bricks. :D

That's why I keep my Cherokee :) I'm always hauling stuff. If you have a house, you pretty much need something with cargo capacity.

I've bought them all, lol. You dont have a tv or a table?

And I used my truck, a 97 f150. Every family should have a truck. I use my maxima as a daily driver and the truck for hauling stuff, weekend work, etc. My wife has a 2005 escape she drives that is a company car.

Do people just get everything bigger than a microwave delivered?

AHH! If you look at my posts, you'll see I'm referring to a four-door car, not mine.

My new job is only ten miles from my new townhouse. If my next vehicle gets 10mpg I won't care.

If you're gonna buy a truck, especially a full size, make it a diesel or forget about it, this is my motto.

I'd love a full-size diesel, but they are out of my price range. I wish they would offer a diesel for the small trucks. :)

id used to work in retail. people would bring small vechiles and expect us to fit a 32+ tv in there, a gas grill. One time soneone brought a bretta, they bought a fotton bed. me and this other employee had to take it out of the box and wedge it into this guy car.

They rent those delivery trucks at Home Depot and Lowes for $20/day. That sure beats going out and buying a $30,000 pickup truck and getting 14mpg for the next five years just so you can pick up a papazan chair once during the 5-6 years you keep the truck.

How often do you buy a new tv, grill, air compressor, table or anything like that? My guess is once.

Sounds to me like you're just trying to justify buying a truck. I guess if you really want one then go buy one. At least be honest though. You really don't need a truck.

Station wagon. It'll move about 85% of the stuff I need to move. Everything else I'll just rent, borrow, or pay for delivery.

I've considered for the last 5 years to pick up a cheap beater truck to use in the winters and for utility, but never could bring myself to get one. The wagon just does everything we need it for so frequently.

The only thing a fullsize diesel makes sense for is if you need to tow a heavy trailer. They still get horrible mileage around town unloaded, it's only when you tow a heavy trailer that they shine. A comparable gasoline engine will drop down into the single digits towing a heavy trailer but the diesel will get similar mileage as it does unloaded and all that torque is much more suited to towing.

Isn't diesel fuel slightly more expensive than gasoline anyway?

Plus you have the added expense of another vehicle to insure.

Your insurance could actually DROP if your daily driver became a used (read NOT $30,000.00) pickup. It would be rugged enough to handle pot holes, speed bumps and curbs, without requiring a 4 wheel alignment every time you turn around. It would be cheap and easy to fix, since it would be RWD. And a helluva a lot safer than econoboxes that can't haul a damn toothbrush!

How do people get by without a truck?

Most people don't!
