we need a truck. would come in handy with yard work and such. of course, once the yard is fixed it would lose some of its practicality, but it will redeem itself over the next few years as we need a new bed, and want to refurnish the whole house.

plus, im sick of borrowing one when i need it.

That's what I do, or get someone I know with a truck to help me out. My car can carry pretty much everything though because it has a fairly decent size trunk and fold down seats.

Mrs. Skoorb, Skoorb, and I moved a matress on the top of my Explorer when they bought one. Should have seen us looking like rednecks going down US 31 at 40mph holding onto a matress that was on top of the car!

I wish I had a truck, or someone with a truck. I used to borrow my parents truck (Ram 1500), but then they moved a few hours away, so it's a bit more difficult to borrow now.

Trucks are great, but the MPG sucks compared with a mid size to small car. When current pickup is worn out (another 7 years), I'm going back to a car & rent a truck as needed.

I wish I had a pickup... :(

only problem for me is fun to drive factor, and gas mileage. otherwise I'd be in a Dakota for sure.

Everything that I buy is cheap or small.

Remember, if you have more stuff than can fit into your current vehicle, you have too much stuff.

If you're gonna buy a truck, especially a full size, make it a diesel or forget about it, this is my motto.

LOL..

I hadn't seen this pic in awhile. This actually happened in my town of Waldorf, Maryland. The customer bought the items at Home Depot about a 1/2 mile down the road before his car did that. The clerks would not help him and he loaded it himself. If I remember correctly he ATTEMPTING to go about 20 miles like that. Not too brilliant.

Shens. That would have dented in his roof right away, even before the suspension failed. Who would do that to their car? I don't think the crane or forklift operator would go along with it either.

easy, by not living in texas or being a redneck.
hehe no really, no one i know in cali has ever needed a truck, if a large enough titem is purchased as in furniture delivery is free, we never buy anything large from home depot and the like but even then you can have it delivered, and when moving you rent a moving van

I was referring to my gf's Sunbird for this. It's a decent size car and the seats fold down.

No it's not. The convertible version fits a lot more, though.

Tell your gf to sell the Sunbird, I had a friend with one...DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!

Anyway, the reason many people don't have trucks is that a)you can fit a lot more in a car than most people realize, b)hatchback is even better...you can fit ANYTHING in a hatch, or c)why own your own when you can borrow a friends' truck?

an SUV is a good compromise

Not able to fit as much as a truck, doesn't get as good mileage as a car?

They have their niche, true, but many SUVs are smaller inside than they have any right to be.

Yes.

Cocnur. Delivery is usually "free" anyways. Unless you are remodeling a home or something, trucks are not needed.

Think about it. Once every 6 months, they might come in handy (new 32" TV, etc). But in the mean time, they eat tons of gas and the tires are bigger, more expensive, etc.

I might keep my truck whren it's time to o a trade in and get a 40 mpg+ commuter car. Keeping hte truck for hauling stuff as needed. probably the way to go.

[*]etc.

Full fold down seats and a tall opening means a heck of a lot can be squeezed into it. For the bed frame + mattress, I paid $30 for it to be delivered to a different city. So I'm out $30. It would cost me a lot more than that to buy a truck that would be used once a year.

Lumber yards deliver to!

I'm starting to realize that. Even relatively small things like chairs, tv's, or garage stuff won't fit in mid-size four door car.
The problem is when you have a truck every time someone needs to haul stuff or move you are always asked to help.

My father has a truck. So I just borrow his when I need to pick up large items that won't fit in my car.
