Some people don't like the term "aquired tasted", but I believe in it. Very, very few people take their first swig of beer and proclaim "THIS IS GOOD SH!T!". Instead, they are at a party, they want to get drunk to fit in, and a keg of natty light is the only pig swill on tap so they drink it. You build up a tolerance, then finally a preferance over time.
I started out drinking ONLY miller lite, to me, it was gods beer. After time, I learned that it was ass beer and "moved up to" Coors light which is a much higher quality beer. After drinking that for a while, I started experimenting with various beers of differening flavors, colors, and textures. I HATED Guinness with a passion the first time I drank it. Now, after getting acclimated to it's thickness and boldness, I've gotten VERY fond of it. It's a very smooth beer with a very refreshing sensation to it.
It really is an aquired tasted regardless of what many people say. You just don't start off with Guinness or a stout actually liking the stuff. It's just a slow progression to "the dark side" as I like to call it. Some people drink dark because of the snob appeal, and feel lower than others if they drink "that domestic piss water". To each their own. Sometimes a nice Budwieser or a Coors light or Lienies tastes great. But, other times, you can't beat a proper temperature Guinness for its overall texture and flavor.
It's just something that comes with time. Start out light(pun intended) and just see what happens.
