Is there a good walkthrough? I learn better from watching and trying than reading.

Thanks!

Play around with it. Get the basics down when dealing with cells, etc, and then check out the info available on formulas and such.

What exactly do you want to do with it?

Just start using it for everyday tasks

Once I decided I was going to read my electric, gas, and water meters daily, and put the data into an excel sheet. Then play around with creating charts from that data.

Self taught with Lotus123 going back to 1990, migrated to Excel. Necessity is the mother of motivation when it comes to learning IMO.

But yes, youtube is a good place to start.

I love Excel, it is the Swiss Army Knife of the Office Suite. I've pretty much learned what I know about it by using it and searching through the Help/web to figure out how to do things that aren't obvious.

I'd like to move up the ranks at work and Excel is used heavily. I have never used it much and have zero idea on how it works.

How can you teach yourself Excel? If, as a teacher of Excel, you were capable in the first place then why would you need to be taught in the very first place?

It really depends on what they use it for. Where I used to work (currently laid off again), they used it to keep track of orders received and shipped, facility needs, and inventories. The inventory sheets were way more interactive and formula heavy than the shipped/received sheets. Try playing around with the program and see if any specific questions pop in your head. There are so many ways to use it, it's hard to make broad generalizations.
