Most tea has some caffeine in it, so it shouldn't be hard to switch.

I wouldn't switch to something like nestea, that stuff is probably just as bad as drinking sodas.

Can you elaborate on that one please?

Diet sodas really don't taste that bad, and after a while of drinking only diet you may find the real thing is actually too sweet. Try buying only diet soda for a few weeks and see if it grows on you. Coke Zero Cherry is very good and remarkably similar to the real thing.

Some other suggestions are diet flavored green teas (such as peach), crystal light, and propel although it is a little more expensive than soda and is very easy to drink multiple bottles. If you want to lose weight you should stay away from drinking a lot of juice, but not entirely away. Some of the "light" juices aren't too bad and only have like 40-50 calories per 8oz.

Being conscience of your calorie count for the day also will help you lose weight ;) Good luck!

Which part? If you mean caffeine addiction...

"In large amounts, and especially over extended periods of time, caffeine can lead to a condition known as "caffeinism." Caffeinism usually combines "caffeine dependency" with a wide range of unpleasant physical and mental conditions"
Taken from...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine

If you mean the statement I made about nestea... To me it taste like it has more corn syrup and who knows what than actual tea.

If you want to quit, quit.

You will go through withdrawls and be fine in a couple of days

Think of it this way, if you quit for 2 weeks, not only will you not crave soda anymore, but it will actually taste worst as your taste buds re-adjust. If you've been drinking water for awhile, soda tastes pretty harsh in comparison.

As an aside, whatever happened to Lime Coke and Lemon Coke?
I actually like those and I never see them anymore.

Stop buying it. I love cookies but I won't eat them if I don't buy them.

Very simple.

And I am glad there is someone who admits that they are addicted to soda, so few people will. I only drink water.

Here's a tip:

every time you're thirsty or want a soda, drink a glass of water or two to quench your thirst, and then have a soda if you still want it. Some people just need to keep their mouths/hands busy. Try chewing gum as well.

The only thing I can recommend is keeping track of how long you've 'resisted'. I have a running tally on the calendar by my office door about hitting the vending machines. Each consecutive day I don't do it, I mark it up there, and can see real progress going on. 15 days and counting  :)

Actually, juice contains almost as much sugar as soda. Assuming he wants to lose weight, drinking soda doesn't have to be cut completely, just kept in moderation. If you really enjoy it that much, I suggest you drink diet; you can get used to it, and it cuts the sugar almost completely.

When you open the soda, pour something in to make it taste really really bad. Once your brain associates soda with bad tasting, then you'll eventually switch to something else.

I put a water cooler in my office. I also realized that regular soda makes my teeth feel nasty, and diet soda is just plain disgusting. I now drink coffee, water, milk, and the occasional glass of juice.

A little lemon or lime in your water. Or converting to diet soda. At first, I found diet soda to be absolutely disgusting. I tried Coke Zero or Pepsi's One and after a little while diet soda tasted the same to me. I've been drinking diet soda's for so long, I can tell the difference between diet and non-diet.

I don't think diet soda tastes that bad - my taste preference now reflects that. Given that a number of people in my family developed diabetes, I thought it was time to start reducing my sugar intake.

i stopped cold turkey a few weeks ago.

i was thinking like 3-4 20oz diet sodas a day. i had a headache for the first 2-3 days of doing it, but after that i was fine.

now i don't crave soda at all. water tastes a lot better to me now as well. i also feel A LOT less bloated all the time and it's helping my 6 pack show more now.

also i'm saving like $15/week. i now only drink sodas when i drink liquor.

Just stop. I did. Getting over soda is pathetic compared to what other people need to do. I used to drink it every day all the time. I quit for almost 6-months and lost quite a few pounds.

Putting them back on though. :) Thanks lack of self-control.

Fixed :Q

You aren't addicted to pop.
You maybe are addicted to the caffeine?

If that's the case, switch to coffee.
I used to drink a ton of Mountain Dew, now, no more, instead, lots of coffee.
