So here I am with a widescreen monitor, and half of my screen is showing a bunch of nothing... Meanwhile, the center column is a clusterfuck of stuff that looks like a jigsaw puzzle
A good design will never fill a high resolution monitor with content.

And you know what else pisses me off? How every damn site nowadays is updating their layout for smartphones (which Youtube just did, all centered and neat)

I know I sound like an angry old man and Im probably one out of ten people in the world without a smartphone but yeah... I cant be the only one who thinks these new layouts suck

The common denominator is what does it take to entertain the masses.

I've wondered if Google's push to connect the two services was one of the reasons why you don't see proper apps for it on other platforms, like Windows Phone or the PlayStation 4. I noticed that neither of the new gaming consoles are putting out a YouTube app which seemed odd.

Thank goodness I only have 4:3's and 16:10's at home.

Using my 16:9 at work is brutal after reading emails on a 4:3.

they're responsive layouts. sometimes it's fluid and it will fill up a larger screen but it won't look or flow as well. responsive layouts make money because you don't lose half of your target audience. kind of ties into that are desktops dead thread.

Yes it does. Youtube IS a Google product. YOU put that link in your sig, which means you likely know what the video is, and you would've had to have used Youtube.

As someone else has stated, Google owns Youtube, which is in your AT sig.

There was another video of it before, it got taken down, so I looked for a new version online. Found what I was looking for and copied the link. Doesn't mean I've ever used a Google product.

More people are using smartphones than PC's. You go with the market.

No, it sucks. On a smartphone or tablet, you can just use the YT app, though, and not have to bother with it [directly]. But, on a tablet with 1080P or better, using the browser for it looks just as bad as on a PC, even with everything upscaled for the DPI. So, you can use the simplified app, or the poorly laid out website. Neither is as good as their older wider design would be, even on the small screen (unless it's a low-PPI LCD, but in that case, you're screwed trying to do anything but texting and calling, IMNSHO).

I've generally found using a browser on my phone to be preferable to most apps for websites, except for websites that specifically try to cram everything together for narrow screens, and IMDB (because IMDB's website is too busy even w/ adblock, but the mobile site/app lacks several links--it's a no-win scenario without always suffering from narrow columns). I use plain old www.eBay.com, FI, because the app is comparatively annoying, on a <5" screen. Ironic, isn't it?

Quoted for awesomeness.

I would have also accepted:

Google...I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to cancel my account, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

Goolgle+, I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my account go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Desktops outnumber all mobile computing devices combined...by a factor of 10!

Desktops will always dominate computing. Learn it, love it, live it.

I wish if this were true, but it's sadly not these days. Even on tech forums like this one you hear of people who have dumped their PC for smart phone and tablets, imagine the general non techy public.

Time for people to stop using Youtube and start using another video site. Vimeo maybe? Need to send a message to Google.

It's sad to see what Google has become though. They used to be a cool company, now they just seem to be continuously trying to find ways to annoy users by constantly changing stuff just for the sake of changing stuff. That's not even considering the whole NSA issue. Time to degoogle ourselves. They're not the only services of their kind.

They're not changing stuff for the sake of changing stuff...they're instantly making the flopped Google+ a success by reallocating users.

I can still leave youtube comments, so apparently at some point in the past several months google fucking got me and I don't remember when. Maybe somebody else was on my computer, but I knew it would eventually. Fucking thing.

Just because its free, does not make their behavior acceptable.
