How do I Prove I have an xt?

Hi guys :)

Just a thought that I noticed when I was looking at my x1950 series card, and the sapphire website. At no point in the software do I see my x1950xt actually identified as an XT. It only ever says x1950 series :( I want the satisfaction that I paid out extra for an xt and it to be shown on bench marks etc.

Secondly... How do I actually get to see that my card actually have 48 pixel shader processers working? I ask this as it states on the Sapphire website (and I realise the problem with Asian tranlastions) "Up to 48 pixel shader processors".

Now the "upto" is the worry for me. Basically I wonder if they label cards that might only have 40/44 pixel shader processors working as XT's. How do i prove they are all set to work? I tried rivatuner expecting them to show up there as with Nvidia cards where you can turn them on an off... but no joy :(

Help :D

(Asking as I just RMA'd a awful x1950xt due to constant crashing at stock, and waiting for my new xt to turn up).

Of course, I bought one just for the card *sigh*. A corsair hx 520w (40A on the 12v rail, and has 2 pci-e connectors on seperate rails). That's getting off-topic, but why would the fan being set at 100% help with a bad PSU? Surely the extra strain would kill it more, not enable the card to run games.

Anyway.. as OP, how do I prove it is an XT with 48 WORKING pipes? (just for my peace of mind)

The easiest way would probably be to run 3DMark to make sure of the performance. Actually getting it to say X1950XT I'm not sure. When I had my X1800XL it also just said X1800 series. You can also check the label ON THE CARD and that should say.

Mine specifically says x1950pro

what does yours say?

Genius sarcasm by thilan29 :D

waffleironhead> It says X1950 Series under those settings and that's all.

If the pro is identified strange that the XT isn't, given that it's a higher spec board.

Also, surely there must be a program like Rivatuner, that for Nvidia cards identifies which vertex/pixel processors are working etc?

Check out ATITool.

rivatuner should be able to tell you how many pixel processors are on your ati card. And also the codename.

Have tried Rivatuner.. and it doesn't :( (latest version).

Currently using ATi Tool and can't see any mention of it in there (name OR pixel/vertex processors).

I will have another look in ATi Tool, and see if I have missed a setting or something.

My main concern is that the sapphire website says "upto" 48 pixel processors, which makes me wonder if mine has the full complement or has say 40/44 or something like that, which might be why the sapphire xt units are so cheap at the moment (or just moving old stock?)

Hmm I've actually got the same issue as you Scougar and mine is a Powercolor that was bought within the past week or so. It scores higher than the stock x1950pro cards I see on the futuremark ORB, but it isn't clocked at 650/1800 like xt's should be, it is just using 625/1400 as if it was a pro. I guess that's how the companies are getting away with selling them so cheaply right now, but you've got me interested in finding out how to identify how many pixel shaders are operating.

Edit - OK, you can find it out if you have access to a copy of Lavalys Everest or Rivatuner (Everest gives the fuller detail).

For Everest you want to look in the Display -> GPU tab, and it should list all your card's specs.

For Rivatuner you want to select a Graphics subsystem diagnostic report. Untick everything apart from ATI VGA BIOS information and then click capture current report.

For me it has verified that I do indeed have an x1950xt with the full complement of 16 TMU's, 8 vertex shader processors and 48 pixel shader processors. It's just a shame about the crappy core/mem speed. My initial attempts to overclock resulted in quite a few system lockups...regardless of if I'm using atitool, ati tray tools or even ati's own overdrive...so it's not like I can wring much more performance out of the card :/

Hi NullVoid :)

The powercolour units are erm.. not what I would suggest as legit XT's really. 1400 was the memory clock speed (i think) for the X1900XT's. Sound like powercolour are just using up old 1900 stock :(

Standard XT: 621/900ddr (1800) (can't actually do 625 -but can go above that - that figure was for advertising)
Standard XTX: 648/1000ddr (2000) (can't do 650 that was also for advertising - can also go above that)
Standard PRO: 575/1400 (not 580 as advertised... again... the clock engine goes up in 'steps').

Personally, I would return or sell the Powercolour and get a standard 621/1800 XT. I think the only thing going for the Powercolour is the Accelero x2 cooler is comes with as standard, which is pretty quiet compared to a standard xt's cooler.

The normal XT's can EASILY do 648/2000 (well 648/999 (1998) or 648/1006 (2012) or like me... 675/2012 :D. If I had better cooling could easily break 700 as it crashes at 702mhz lol.

Point being, I doubt your memory is rated to get to 1000ddr (2000)?

Ok.. Gone completely off topic, jumping back on>>>

Cool... I will look again at rivatuner and have a look for everest... thanks for the tip :)

The only place I noticed it said X1950XT is on the start screen when you turn the PC on. Obviously that isn't quite what I was looking for lol. Will post what I find with riva/everest tonight :)

I had thought about returning it but I won't be. The pre-installed accelero x2 is a nice touch, and it is faster than a x1950pro although the slow clocks obviously cut into the difference. I don't have the most demanding selection of games but it has run every single one of them at 1600x1200 with all in-game settings maxed, I tried the same on the Colin Mcrae Dirt demo but it choked hard :) Although taking off the AA and dropping shadows to high instead of ultra renders it smooth and playable. In short, it is doing everything I ask of it and it was pretty cheap given the competing cards at that pricepoint. After gaming for years with a ***** 128mb radeon9600LE (the crippled 64-bit version), this new card has been nothing short of a revelation for me :)
