How do I plan a man trip to Europe?

OK, a bunch of us have been planning a trip to Europe post-grad and don't know where to start. We're all guys, we all wanna do guy-things, and we envision lots of bars, clubs, drinking, merriment, etc. At the same time we wanna see cool sites like castles/cathedrals and some museums, etc. We have money but we would like to do things within a reasonable budget--we plan on spending a few nights in hostels when in the city and in small hotels when in travelling the countryside (rather than Eurorail we plan on renting a car.)

We've looked at a few airfare options and depending on which carrier we take, we'll be visiting Iceland/Ireland, England, Northern France, Amsterdam, Germany (World Cup in June), Prague, Switzerland, Milan, Monaco-French Riviera, then heading back to England to fly out. We plan on doing all this in a span of 3-4 weeks.

What travel resources should we use to get everything planned? Where do we get the best airfare to Europe? What about student discounts or booking through a travel agency (can we save money by doing this?) Where do we find advice on where to go and what to see and where to hang out (Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, or any travel forums on the Intarweb?)

Any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks!

I think Barcelona would be a good place to visit. There is no lack of parties or alcohol (Sangria ftw!) and I liked my stay there. Six years ago I was there with my ex-class in a cheap hotel at the Ramblas (the biggest street there).

The city also offers some sightseeing possibilities like the Sagrada Familia, the eternal construction site for a church, and buildings from Gaudì (also tons of museums).

The tickets for the Soccer World Cup in Germany all get sold in advance, so if you plan to visit a game and spend the afforded money, prepare the day. But there will be party spirit in the entire cities wherever games are hosted.

By the way, the new Swiss airline URL is swiss.com.

Rough guides are pretty good - where you planning to head to in England? I would also highly recommend the sights of Amsterdam 😀

My European Travel Guide

Suggestion: Just book some tickets from the US to Barcelona. Visit Barcelona for a few days, see the nice big Gaudi cathedral, Sagrada Familia, then walk on over to the port, get on a boat, and sail over to Ibiza. The next morning you'll have arrived at the Party Capitol of Europe. Beaches and topless hotties by day, clubs by night. Expect to get NO sleep. Heck, sleep on the beach! (Ibiza-Spotlight.com)

Suggestion: The beer crawl in Munich is a blast too!

(I have done both of the above.)

Edit: Agreed, a "man" visit to Europe would not be complete without a trip to Amsterdam.

ibiza

thats all i think of

Ibiza is a bit poo. Full of the low, low calibre brits that I'm hugely ashamed to be associated with.

yep - give Ibiza a miss, plenty of better places to see

"to Europe". I think that's probably an oxymoron......unless you intend to weep at the sight of all those old buildings and sh!t.

Man trip = Vegas or Alaska or Cooperstown

Barge parties in Belgrade. That city is awesome...super hot, well dressed girls, everyone is super friendly and speaks English, it's cheap, and the parties just keep going.

amsterdam 😀

yeah thats all you need say

Yes, Amsterdam is a nice city. They have those cool canals, and I've never seen so many bicycles in my life. I saw a parking garage like complex for bicycles.

For some reason I think you guys are thinking of some other reason for going to Amsterdam...

If you plan on renting a car do it in some other country then England you are going to get hosed on the exchange rate if you do it there.....

Come to think about it you guys should really just go by train...it gives you nice recovery time and you don't have to worry about local traffic laws etc....also European drivers are crazy anyway...
