Hello, I want to be able to dunk but I can literally only touch the backboard at most (in basketball). Right now I'm about 6'2" and 175 lbs. I can do about 180 on the leg presses, should I work on my calves more? Thanks

180? Wtf, you weigh 175, you should be able to do much more than that. If I recall correctly, I could do 300+ back in highschool...

put a box, or something you can stand on against the wall. Put you hands on the wall and jump from the floor to box repeatly. rest, then do it again, and again and again. begin increasing the height of what you are jumping on.

In Track, I used to do some excercises. Basically a weighted wooden box. You'd have your shoes on, hop on one foot on the box, back off the box, on the box and repeat that until basically you collapse.

Training was great!

Crouch until you start flashing rapidly, then release. Also, find some power mushrooms and if at all possible be Luigi.

(Translation: I have no clue)

Go back in time to when your parents conceived you and hope your Dad sends the sperm with the jumping gene this time.

rofl 🙂

You should be able to leg press at least twice your weight.
Leg press of 180 when you are 175 means you can squat and stand up with a half gallon of milk in your hands. Go you!!!

You need more strength, but that doesn't always mean you can use that strength quickly enough to increase your jump.

I know pro volleyball players do a lot of jumping exercises. One of the ones they used to work on vertical jump was doing jumps on a mini trampoline with a belt that was attached to the trampoline with elastic cords. Resistance jumping basically.

wear ankle weights 24/7.

i was into kungfu when i was younger...thats what we did. wear them 24/7. After a few months,
maybe a year or more for some, you begin to not even notice its there. Then when u take em off
u friggin jump over a guys head easy...at least in jumpkicks and stuff..u feel light as a feather.

start light..then move on to heavier weights.

Yeah, that is seriously, PATHETIC! You need more leg strength

I can touch the rim (can't dunk), and I'm 5'9"

I've also been playing basketball since I was little, but I don't think this should matter, you have 5" on me. You should easily be able to dunk

`K

i used to play vball, and i read about some things that can help u jump higher. ankle weights can be a bad idea because they put a lot of stress on your ankles, and u can injure yourself. search around online for a program called "air alert 2". it has an entire training regiment to help you jump higher.

edit: it's actually a DVD, but there's a word doc floating around somewhere that lists everything u need to know.
