For me it was a friend of mine. I was always asking him for information/help for my pc, and one day he referred me to AnandTech, so i gave it a try. What made me sign up was quote: "Over 150,000+ users" I don't regret it :)

I'd read the main site (reviews) for years before signing up for the forums. Don't remember what specifically convinced me to join the forums, but I obviously spend too much time here now. :p

I read a newspaper article about Anand back in 1998. I signed up because I learned so much here at the forums.

Sharkyforums.com took off their off topic forum because it generated to much traffic. I used their fs/ft forum as well. So I started looking for another place that had fs/ft as well as an off topic.

Reading the site (along with FiringSquad and HARDOCP) since '99 or so. I remember the times when Anand was pretty. I looked at the NewEgg article and lost all faith of the mankind.
Anyway, recently I got banned from a local hardware forum so I thought this should be a nice place to come visit. Har, har, har.

CrackRabbit suggested it while I was trying to figure out a problem I was working on. Didn't help with the problem, but it was entertaining, so I stayed.

1999? Pretty?! Wasn't Anand pretty young at the time?

Yes. Young and fresh like a lettuce. I think Vinnie maimed him to mark her territory.

I started reading the hardware reviews in 99 I think. I saw someone use the site in one of my programming classes and needed some information on hardware. I read reviews for about two years before joining the forums.
