<-- Monster. Oddly it was one job that I didn't even submit cover letter for.

I'm asking because I'm trying maximize my job search now that I'm out on the market again (sick of my current job - project mgmt).

Monster, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs... what else did you do? (or can you do?). Agencies do nothing for me since all they specialize is finance & administrative.

careerbuilder.

I wasn't even that serious when I applied to the job because i was so worked about getting a job that would fit my resume and I did not even think they would be interested in me. Well, now I have switched industries and I start next week.

BTW, I have found yahoo hot jobs to be the worst. Criagslist is awesome, but sadly enough, headhunters are starting to use it.

I was working a pt job just above minimum wage and a new guy started talking to me, before long he offered me to come in and work with him part time. Long story short I got on FT and I love it, dropped the old PT job just working this one. Pretty much to me the only way I've gotten jobs is though knowing someone.

It can be enormously stressful and frustrating trying to get people from different departments working together on tasks that aren't their highest priority when you have deadlines to meet.

PM SOUNDS cool, but unless you're a real high-level PM, it's just a bitchwork like any other middle-level corp job - sitting in cube all day. I want to travel for my next job.

Keep in mind, if you're a PMI certified project manager, then you'd be making six figures and the job is far more 'fun'.

But then you'd already know that if you were to become PMI certified as it requires 5-10 yrs in PM + 2-3 yrs of classes.

I was sitting around my bedroom complaining to my sister about hating my then-current job, and she was like, "you know, my boyfriend just had to fire someone, let me see if I can get you an interview."

and that was that.

Word of mouth / social networking is the best. You usually get more breaks this way and don't have to submit an application 5 months before getting a callback. The problem with HR depts these days is that they don't update which jobs are filled frequently enough and you can be applying for jobs that aren't even available.

I'm lucky enough to be looking in a relatively small radius when I look, so I just hit up company websites and the newspaper for leads.

Also add that lots of companies build up databases now by having people apply to jobs that they have no intention of filling at that moment.

Anyone else have luck applying for job directly through the website?
