Your first semester you will need to get some basic requirements out of the way, but you will have a little bit of freedom in what courses you want to take. Take stuff that looks interesting to you, and then see how you like it.

That's basically how I chose my major. I took an International Relations course and loved it, hence I am now an International Affairs major. Unfortunately, that likely means the best I can hope for is to serve fries.. but anywhere in the world!

I just applied for the one with the highest requirement, being a big head at that time.

Ended up in IT. Was rejected by Business. Its the best thing that happened to me.

because of a high school program where we take college courses, i have over 75 credits... so even though its my first year at college i'm a sophmore... i guess i'm deciding to go into business becuase my parents have their own business.... not exactly a good reason to be in it.. is it? another question... what kind of jobs would i be applying for with a economics degree?

i would not go for economics, unless you want to teach or go to business school. i know a guy who majored in it, fairly bright guy, he works as UPS now, moving packages.

kpxgq is probably correct. If you major in economics and want a 'real' job, you might want at the very least an emphasis in business.

how about accounting? or accounting information systems(AIS)?

some of you are probably thinking, is is ucvb6 smoking crack? why would anyone want to be a beancounter or professional bookkeeper?

i feel that accounting provides a solid foundation for all other business areas. for example: investment banking, financial analyst, etc...........

just my opinion.

Pretty easy for us musicians. "Hmm, Music Performance or 20th Century American Literature..." Of course, that also means I can't double major in comp sci (lots of friction between our School of Engineering and School of Arts and Architecture), but I can get a double in cognitive science, that's gonna be a real bitch to pull off.

if u can get into business (pretty tough field to succeed in)

MIS-business frontend/computer IT related (CS for dummies)
Finance-finanancial analysis
Marketing-advertisng, planning, etc

those are the fun ones...

If you like Chemistry, i would definately look into Pharmacy

Stay away from Engineering and CS unless you are good at math... else they are very rewarding fields.

how bout acturial science?

that was a joke

i hear that major is very very tough but, if you pass like 3 specialized exams, everybody will want you which means lots and lots of $$$

After a year of college I still had no clue so I went to a pro Career Counselor. Payed the guy $125, took some tests, had an interview. Because of him I got into Radio and TV production and I love it. I graduated and I'm out in LA now working as a starving editor.

i agree with kpxgq,

go to class.

in my opinion, i think freshamn year is the toughest. but if you maintain your GPA and get by the frist year, the rest of college will be cake

that's odd -- the few guys I know who did econ were making huge money in the financial industry a few years out of school

Some of the best schools (such as North Western) do not offer business degrees to undergrads. Everyone in these schools take economics if they want to end up in the business field. In other cases when schools have business degrees the people who can't get into the program have to take Economics.

I would appreciate it if you would give future posts a little more thought/research before you start typing

i've been working with computers since i was 6 years old. i programmed in basic in 3rd grade and me and my friend used to upgrade apple IIs with memory. Needless to say i am a computer science major . However the negatives of being CS (such as there is so much useless BS to learn, your professors are morons, and a lot of effort is required to learn useless crap, and no girls in classes) are starting to wear me down.

I've also a businessy type its in my genetics, my grandfather was a international business man, my uncles are my dad deals in business. But i found out econ was about doing people's income taxes and making retarded charts. Man, college really isnt very real life.

I'm sure there's a GE requirement at your school...take those classes and see what you're good at and what you like... :)
