how did you decide on what major to be in for college?

I have an econ degree.. and now I am working as a web developer doing mostly backend stuff. The only use I have for my degree is picking up chicks who needs help with their econ homework :D

If you're worried about being too specific, you can just major in business (in general). That'll widen your options a little bit.

I decided on political science because I love politics and couldn't imagine myself enjoying anything else for a significant period of time.

It isn't the end of the world if you (a) don't choose a major as soon as you go to college or (b) change your major a year or two into college.

Most people don't end up doing what they major in anyway. Having a bachelor's just makes you more desirable to employers.

Just take some base classes your semester. Don't sweat it... You don't really need to pick a major just yet. Besides you can't even declare one until you have x amount of hours. Just take some base classes (e.g. English, math, fine arts, history, etc.). I'm a Pre-Med Sciences / undeclared major. I liked the "hard sciences" and stuck with those kind of classes. I too would try and stay away from economics unless you want to be a professor or work for the government.

tried out biology... labs and tests kicked my @ss.... so i ended up majoring in math! best move i ever made... i love it and i'm going back to grad school for the same thing! pure theoritical mathematics... nothing beats it!
