Thank you Lunar Ray for debunking another myth, a speaker of the house that comes from East may need only a puddle jumper of a plane, but a more distant speaker of the house needs something better. Since we can't partisan predict or select a speaker of the house by distance from Washington DC, its likely to cut both ways in the future.

If we think California is bad, wait until some future speaker of the house comes from Alaska or Hawaii.

He decided that, consistent with the post 9/11 presidential mandate,... the Speaker had to have non stop, secure travel IF available... The prior Speaker could travel non stop in the smaller aircraft but the current one could do so only on certain days and not during the winter using that aircraft or similar because of head winds... So a bigger or at least a plane that could transit non stop was in order... Air force 3 became the story :laugh:
Also, the Secret Service (or the boss of that clan) can elect to provide security under the '' ... and other members of the presidential succession..." But, most if not all security is confidential..
I have no problem with her having a nice aircraft to flit about in... creates employment etc... 😀
