Ive been buying a huge ammount of products from Newegg for years to build computers for customers. I have tried tons of other sites as they appear, and i have NEVER been as satisfied as I am with Newegg. Price/Selection/Service... its all top notch here. They have earned my $20 grand over the last years, that is for sure.

First they copied mwave's site.

Then they offered excellent customer service.

Then they never stopped improving the functionality of their site.

voila.
Yeah, Mwave was the company I usually turned to before NewEgg. They had good customer service too IMO. I haven't used them in awhile, but then again I haven't really tinkered with my hardware as much the last couple years.

I use Mwave for networking supplies other then that I totally use Newegg. In Fact, I think I spend an average of 5000 @ Newegg every year Personally.

Personally I stopped using mwave a number of years ago when then customer support took a nosedive. Not shipping parts when they said they would and then their CS staff responding with "It'll ship eventually, stop whining" type responses. That and both a friend of mine and my employer had a problem with their CC#s being used to purchase pron (hundreds of dollars worth) by someone on mwave's network shortly after they placed an order with mwave. Mwave's response? "Bummer for you, but we specifically don't track who is using what IP on our network at any given time so that we can't be forced to reveal it under these kind of circumstances."

Which is why I shop with NewEgg. :)

Newegg is a very interesting success story. First it's run by Asians (I assume this by their broken english emails and talking to them on the phone). This is very rare in the computer industry where Asians are usually not owners.

Next, when the Radeon 7500 came out, it was such a bang for your buck card. That's *the* reason Newegg is popular. They carried it and everyone wanted one.

Since then, they have vastly improved for the various reasons already listed.

I'll do one even better. Cali to South Korea in 6 days!! I'm stationed over here and needed to build a new rig badly, and of course I knew I could rely on Newegg for everything. Once again, they delivered as expected.

I've used Newegg for a while now and ordered about $3000+ from them. I've ALWAYS received top-notch customer service, nothing less. Sure you might pay a few dollars more for some items, but it's well worth it :)

I've always wondered that as well...

At some point in the mid- to late-nineties, Egghead closed all its B&M stores and sold exclusively through egghead.com. Egghead.com went out of business not too long after that.

I remember when I used to be a frequent visitor on the hot deals forum, and there was a great deal found in the radeon LE, where you could enable HYPERZ in the registry. This strange new place called "NEW EGG" seemed to have the best price, but nobody had really heard of them yet (disclaimer: maybe people knew about it, but mostly people were still buying from places like mwave). I have been a customer ever since. I've probably build a hundred computers from their components, easily spending many many thousands of dollars there.

One thing I'd like for them to improve on is the price and shipping price of cooling items. It's much cheaper to buy fans and HSF at other places, especially places that offer USPS shipping like svc.com

What, so no-one that hasn't posted here before can have an experience that you don't like?

I saw this thread linked off the main Anandtech news page, and it sounded interesting. I saw mwave mentioned as another good quality purchase site so I thought I'd let people know about the very bad experience that I and many people I know have had with them.

Though with this kind of response I guess I won't bother in the future.

Newegg rocks. Good prices, no questions asked returns. I've gotten pretty lucky in the past with their refurb stuff too... although hot deal forums that post a hot deal price for 1 refurbished item... just for the sake of posting something they're not gonna buy.... greatly diminish the deals that regular, frequent customers can get. Not mentioning any names (cough Anandtech cough). Only losers post refurb hot deals, sorry.

Canada? The customs paperwork and bumped shipping cost in addition to the exchange rate would drive the price so high no one from Canada would use them.

I've shipped stuff all over the world (I love you, Ebay) and for being right next door to the USA, considering the price and paperwork involved I might as well be shipping to Russia. You can't ship effectively to another country unless you have a presence there and I guess it's just too much money to fathom.

Got a bit off topic there, sorry. Newegg is the shiznit. You cannot go wrong unless you're shopping for a 3 dollar ide cable.

I'm another NewEgg user.
I build PC's as a second income. For several years I bought from MWave for just about everything,
times change. I started buying from NewEgg when MWave raised shipping costs.

I have only had one bad experience with NewEgg. My daughter wanted to buy her mom a new case as a present.
We ordered a case that had rainbow bubble lights on the front bezel.
When we recieved the case it was the exact same model without the lights. After we ordered the case and it was shipped NewEgg
changed the specs on the case and sent ours anyway. (same day)

Only one problem out of many purchases is pretty darn good.

Now if NE can just get a variety of watercooling products we would all be set ;)

NewEgg is a no-brainer for most things. For example, I ordered a case from them on 12/22. Not only was the case an excelent deal at $50, they shipped it for free, and I had it on Christmas eve. This is during the busiest shopping week of the year, folks--two day turnaround from another state. Outstanding. That said, I've never had to use their customer support.

Bottom line, on 90% of the parts I buy, Newegg is the cheapest, shipped. They ship faster than any other online company I've worked with and I'm informed through the entire process. They ship via Fedex, which is a big plus, and display individual item shipping rates right next to the price. I am to the point now that I would pay extra to use them. They are just that good. I couldn't even make a suggestion on how they could be better--they can't be. They are the only company that I suggest to my friends that they should use (not just retail--literally for any product). Newegg just rocks!

Over the past two years, I purchase 95% of the items I need for the systems I build at newegg.

Reasons:
They have a good no-nonsense RMA program.
Great prices.
Always ship on time! (Very important to me.)
Wide product selection.
One of the best user friendly web sites!
Being able to sort through all the hardware selections with their very functional web site is so handy! They take enough digital pictures of products so that you know what your getting and eliminate customer pre-buy questions. (pictures are worth a thousand words) Little things like showing a picture of the power supply specification sticker for the ps in the case is so helpfull!
I could go on and on.

My only complaint is thier shipping prices are sporadic.
Example: You can get free shipping on a video card or hard drive, but you gotta pay ~$4 for shipping on a Round Cable that only cost ~$4, doubling the overall price of the item! That's fine if your putting together a whole system, but if you just need 1 item, it can cost you.
The size and weight of the video card or hard drive is more, but the lighter and smaller item cost more to ship. That doesn't make sense.
IMHO, this is where they make up for free shipping on some of their items. They get you with the extra's. Overall it balances out for the customer I guess.
It's like, "do you want fries with that"?

Overall I rate newegg.com a 9.5 out of ten and I highly recommend them.

A little googling turned up this article, Integrity is integral , at CNet. The vice president of newegg is Jay Tong, so the company is probably run by Asians as mentioned by another poster. Then it is similar to MA Labs, a computer products reseller which was founded by Abraham Ma. (BTW, MA Labs does not currently sell retail.)

I really wish more than two people had some real information about newegg instead of just rehashed raves. Its obvious from the search features and product descriptions on their website that they understand how to sell on the Internet, and they have the finances to carry it out. And when I say "they", I mean the one or two founders who run the place.

I used to have a company that sold overclocked computer kits, and I still keep track of computer hardware prices. It's a very low margin business (<5%) unless you can add some value. Newegg's prices have been quite low, sometimes even lower than MA labs. They definitely must have purchasing leverage, the finances to run at a loss, or access to cheap immigrant labor. (Welcome to California!) Someone who knows more please post.

Good prices, Fast and fair shipping!!!, good selection, good customer service and a good site design which became more funtional over time. I used to spend tons with Mwave but their site is almost painful to use, once I found Newegg why bother...

I remember first seeing NewEgg on pricewatch. the old saying as the cheapest may be the best place to go through. this was before shipping rates were posted as well. Places were selling cheap and had super high shipping ($30 for a $100 vid card, or even that much for ram). NewEgg may not have been the cheapest listed, but always had reasonable shipping so in the tally, they were cheaper. This combined with customer service , fast shipping and an almost no hassle RMA policy is why i will 99% of the time check newegg before I search the web.

Yeah...I thought not too long after egghead.com went out of business that newegg.com was created. I thought it was a change names to try to get rid of past problems....

I do like newegg though...

I got a case from them, and it shipped with a slightly defective part...it was a cd drive cover with a self closing door. well, the door came off the mount and was missing the spring hinge. All of my emails were never returned.

Newegg is about the only place I order from online anymore. There are so many e-tailers out there it can be difficult to choose from among them. But when you find a place like Newegg that has great prices and customer service, fast shipping, an easy-to-use website and a liberal return policy why would you go anyplace else? Other companies try using the same receipe for success but always seem to be missing a couple of the ingredients.
