Who are "Apple customers"? 14 million iPads sold last year and something like 20 - 40 million will sell this year. Are they all Apple fanboys? No. They are everyday consumers. Apple did the exact right thing ignoring geeks and making a product geared for everyday consumers.

The analogy is spot on. Every revolution there are people like you who let their bias control their opinion. There was those who wrote off for the automobile, the motion picture, even the Internet. You're just the latest in a long line of dumbasses.

Add another 10+ million nonapple tablets that will also be sold this year.

The current generation of iPt devices are the best Apple has ever made. My friend got a killer deal on the 8GB model and LOVES it. From what I can tell, he hasn't even bothered to use the "iPod" function yet (hates iTunes).

I don't have any music on my iPod Touch either, with only 8GB memory space is too valuable to waste on videos and mp3s.

I own an iPhone, it was the first apple product i've ever bought. I'll relate it to the iPad...Let's see if I can get this through without sounding like a fanboy.

It's simple. It just works. Always. Apple has such tight control over the hardware, software, and apps - that it will always WORK. I don't have to worry about viruses, rebooting, updates, blah blah blah. I'm a software developer and know computers inside and out, I know I can pick up my iPhone and it will always work, instantly. Yah there are comperable things, rooting a nook, etc but then I'd have to dick around with them. My iPhone is not jailbroken, there is no need for it to be - it does, literally, EVERYTHING I could need it to do - way better and faster then a lot of other devices I've seen.

Remember, most consumers don't have the knowledge that most users on this board do - they need something dead simple and reliable.

We get it, you like tablets. But a lot of people don't.

(See? Why even bother posting  )

Lolwut? The problem is those that are ignorant to a product need should probably skip a post or two.

In the home builder and medical industries tablets have a huge following.

So? What's your point? That has no bearing on my opinion since I am not them.

This thread is about why tablets succeed. Posting variations of the phrase "I don't like tablets" Seems far more futile than the point I was making.

that seems strange coming from someone who has a linux penguin avatar

Then again, I do understand. Some people prefer a hassle-free computer and don't care about the customization Linux offers, but enjoy messing with their phones. Others (like you) are the opposite.

Here's what I want to know. Why do most ipad/iphone users(at least the ones I know/seen) seem to be so adamant about Apple being the best, yet they are horrid users.

What I mean is, they barely use the thing to the full. Or they don't even know how to use most features or even know features exist. I don't own one. I wouldn't mind one. But, I seem to know WAY more about what the things can do and I've only held one once for about 10 minutes.

Example.

My sister has an iphone. She texts, takes pics, blah blah blah. The other day we're with my parents. She's in their car. They can't find where they're trying to go. I'm like, "you have a freakin' GPS in your hand." She uses it, and then....we still get lost and end up circling a parking lot twice only to find out its on the other side of the highway.

Also, I do computer repair as a side job and I get questions about them. I'm able to comment about the things way better than the owners, and I don't have the faboy'ish attitude they have. How can you be so loyal to something you barely know anything about. Is Apple really that big of a status symbol now?

You do seem to be part of the ignorant then.

No one is forcing you to buy a tablet nor are they replacing desktops or laptops.

You are safe!

the tablet market just sucks right now. I've played with the 7" and 10" form factors, I don't really like either, waiting to see the 8.x" from Samsung, I think that will be a better form factor. I think they are over priced considering they are supplemental, a good smart phone and nice laptop is still the goto combo for people. Just to pick on Apple's iOS, I think they need some dramatic UI changes because after using newer builds of Android and WP7, it feels old and sluggish.

Apple could serve feces on a cardboard square and their dumbass dipshit customers would flail their arms and fling piles of cash everywhere to buy it.

but you swear by intel atoms and trashy netbooks that can't do shit, right?

im no apply fan, but the reason why people buy an ipad is because it's familiar and it doesn't suck to use.

The entire tablet market, just like the netbook market, should die. The only reason it's not an already-dead-passing-fad is because Apple is involved and their customers will buy absolutely anything for any price just because it has an apple logo.

Your analogy completely fails and is irrelevant to the conversation at hand.

How is it that you can explain the remarkable success of the iPad as a product of Apple's loyal fanbase, when so many of them are selling to non-Apple users? Both of my 70-year-old parents now have iPads and are absolutely in love with them - neither has any prior experience with or affinity for Apple or its products.

The iPad is certainly an optional device in one's life but so are MP3 players, laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, etc. You can say as many times as you want that the iPad is "overpriced," but it's undeniably as cheap as, or cheaper than, its competitors, which are all smaller and all have less battery life and poorer build quality, and none of which has anywhere near the vast library of apps the iPad offers. I think ultimately Android will become a highly competitive platform for tablets (the RIM offering, on the other hand, seems like a complete joke), but at this point nobody has made one that offers a package as appealing as the iPad 2.

If you don't want a tablet, fine, but that doesn't mean that the millions of people who bought iPads are suckers or Apple fanboys.

You obviously didn't read the thread because I've specifically addressed that.

Go read the thread before posting.

 People are still arguing and trying to convince someone who don't want to be convinced? "The only winning move is not to play."

He can always try. Nik has been one of this forum's angriest members for more than a decade - actually he spent a year or two in there being the self-appointed "WRONG FORUM!" policeman.

He is quite entertaining, what is most irritating about him is the double posts. Is that just some pathetic attempt at increasing his post count?
