Good point. That may have something to do with it, but don't they receive much of the same training as any other cop? They certainly don't have to deal with the same situations on a day to day basis, but I'm guessing that very few of the regular Dallas police had ever been seen a situation like this before.
They were not standing around. The attacker parked on a nearly deserted street about three blocks from where the protest ended and the police came to him.
