I am not clear whether you are talking about oral herpes (i.e., cold sores) or genital herpes. You CAN get genital herpes if someone with a cold sore goes south of the border on you, but this is not contagious unless she has a breakout. A very large percentage of people have cold sores, and this is nothing to be afraid of.
