I started coming here around 1999, back when building your own custom gaming PC was still a cool thing to do.

I'll bet that even back then it was probably cheaper to get a fast Dell system when they were on clearance sale and slap a fast video card into it. Didn't matter... most of us wanted something that sounded like a jet engine back then, and had a case window with multicolored LED lit fans 🙂

16 years later... now I'm getting old 🙂

It is not that they are old, it is that they are premature geriatrics.

The old person 'tude doesn't just switch on at 65, it's always there; i.e. loud mouth blow hards, know it all shit stains, arm chair experts, etc.

As others have said, we've been here since the beginning. I joined in the geocities days, so I was like 21ish. I'm 39 now.

Still game, still like computers, still love gadgets.

I joined when I was 21. I'm 35 now.

Do you have hair in your ears yet? I can't figure out why I need hair in new places just because I'm getting older.

51 and screams at 20 somethings all day to quit standing around and get to work, and those are the cream of the crop.
Most don't make it first day

🙁 Why you harshing my mellow? I just built recently with lotsa LED's...... and it's COOL dammit! My 21 yo son and a couple his friends said so. One of them was even a girl. 😎

It's retro cool now kinda like being a clock maker.

You know you're old when you need to buy a computer case with dust filters 😛

In 2001 I got a nasty file infector virus and ended up on Tom Coyote forums. That led me to CastleCops and then to Wilders Security forums. I then decided to build my first computer and someone recommended I visit here. Damn time flies.

I voted 40+

OP, it is possible to vote (honestly) more than once. For example you can be 50+ and a granddad ...

Forums were the rage right after 2k. Computers and broadband got cheap. Millions of people hit the web 2000 on. Then MySpace and Facebook took off around 2004-5. All the kiddies migrated to social knick knack sites where you post photos of the salad you ate and posters with "deep" slogans like "Main St Not Wall St..Luv Knows No Gender" etc. Tumblr was an anorexics dream come true. Now forums are flat, as the masses have moved to post thin shit on their phones a couple sentences at a time. SO much tech and commnication and people are more vapid than ever.

Because we joined the year you were born.

Some of us even before that.

Believe it or not i am 55 this year and have discovered that computer/technical illiteracy is found in all age groups.

My sons are 26 and 23 yrs old both with computer science degrees and gainfully employed in software engineering and systems administration fields. However I still find myself troubleshooting the pcs they build for themselves and their friends from time to time when they cant figure out why it wont boot.

I have no degree but I have experience and wall full of certs. My boys nicknamed me the internet nazi when I leveraged my networking skills to make them follow my rules on the home network. It was a lot of fun actually every time they thought they had me beat I would slam the door in their face. When I say no P2P I mean no P2P on this network!.

They were to young to remember dial up so I would simulate it for them. Usually their internet speed would be directly tied to grades and chore completion.

If they were being particularly offensive requiring them to authenticate for internet access every 30 seconds would usually settle them down.

😉

in an age where anyone can communicate with anyone or everyone, anywhere, at all times....and it's all stupid bullshit

2nd one is awesome. I think the implied ignorance is intended, no? 😀

probably the worst poll ever. Only 2 options, really, the rest are redundant; and one class of people is entirely left out.

I'm a granddad x 2. I also love math puzzles. My granddaughter just turned 1. Using the rule of thumb for age of people you can date, I'd be able to date an 18 year old poster on these forums 4 years before that poster would be able to date my granddaughter.

:hmm:

my head hurts.

I'm 44. It's just a number.

Still game on xbox one and wii u. Built a linux box a few years ago and a win7 box the year before that. I have a raspberry pi running mini-dlna to serve vids to the xbox one and whatever other devices on the network are interested. Gravity Falls is one of my favorite shows. I'm on here during the day because it helps the day go faster while at work.

You are one evil dude. But in a manner I strangely admire. 😀
