Typical forums are people age around 13-21 (but mostly 14 imo) but on AT it seems everyone is over 40 years old lol. I'm not hating on oldies at all! I respect every oldies here actually, because I don't see myself being active on forum boards and playing video games when I turn old, you see what I'm trying to say? I mean it! My dad is 55 and he does not even know how to turn on a computer and clueless how to unlock his iPhone passcode lmao ;_;

Just curious, Is this forum special or something? ():)

How old are you? Just wondering :hmm:

Because you are among the 40 year old's who were the first ones addicted to computers VIA the arcade which then translated to the TRS-80's,ATARI's and Amiga's and IBM's.

We were addicts further more by way of dialup BBS message boards. That also had TRADEWARS and IRC then each BBS was able to link their IRC communications together. Then you had action chat. then Prodigy Internet then aol & comcast & Erol's Internet and now the cutting edge in Fiber with Verizon internet.

For us who are in their 40's we love the internet and a few have tried to turn off the addiction but, It is what it is.

I still have my 300 baud modem!

I joined when I was 13... Now I'm in the 20+ category :hmm:

I'm still here because I can't stand places like Reddit. The format sucks and makes it hard to have conversations. Not to mention there are way to many circlejerks over there.

15 years ago the people on the internet weren't 40, but they are now. This forum has been around for a while... 1+1=old.

25. Was 15 when I joined...time has flown by :|

Yep, now you can probably remember a few things you did 20 years ago. Before you know it you'll be reminiscing about the good old days in between pudding cups and diaper changes.

i was explaining why it's oldies who post here. jackass.

also, i was poking fun at myself because i've grown up and realized how petty it is to brag about material possessions...doesn't change the fact that i had em.

I joined in Uni... now i'm older than that.

I was working at my first big boy job. I had worked in restaurants for 5 years and started working in sales. My installer was huge into hot deals and introduced me to this site, pricegrabber and a couple others.

Who remembers $15 off of $50 and the pop cans deal?

Besides, all of the kiddos are too busy posting stupid Animal memes on Reddit to care what goes on here.

In my day, we posted our stupid memes on YTMND and we liked it, dammit!

Yes.

Anti-Cliffs: When this forum started, overclocking computers was a man's art. Those who came to it already had at least a basic working knowledge of electronics, coding, or both. Additionally, the hardware was far more expensive, both absolutely and relatively, so it wasn't something Daddy and Mommy bought for you to play with. You purchased same with your own money, which you earned from your job.

Demographically, we were a small sliver of the general populace. We still are, but in the meantime, everyone and his idiot troll younger brother are on the internet, broadcasting opinions so shallow that a walk through the oceans of their souls would scarcely get your feet wet.

We have endured because we are special, and not because our Mommies relentlessly told us so.

And, yeah, we are only special relative to the nose pickers and social shut-ins who have now overwhelmed the rest of the net . . . but there you have it: In the land of the blind, we one-eyed men are king.

I started coming here around 1999, back when building your own custom gaming PC was still a cool thing to do.

I'll bet that even back then it was probably cheaper to get a fast Dell system when they were on clearance sale and slap a fast video card into it.

Back then, it wasn't, which leads me to believe you weren't really "in the game" back in 1999.

Back then you couldn't get a "really fast Dell". I had a top of the line Dell when I joined up. It was beyond slow and had a massive 8GB HDD. The main reason I started building was because you couldn't get "fast" out of the box. Hell...how long did we have to wait for mainstream manufacturers to start using video cards and go away from onboard video?

Hey, that's not true! I had my own custom built system with a Slot A Athlon 700 in it back then. Intel had nothing that could compete with it at the time :) I could never get that damn Mushkin memory to run at it's rated PC133 speed, though.

When did the Dell Dimension XPS systems come out? I vaguely remember them being on sale a lot, and they were upgradable.

All the forums I know in my native language similar to this one that had a good community (mostly composed by young people) eventually died and/or transformed into helpdesks where people who can't use google ask stupid questions and get stupid answers from 14 years olds.

I guess having old farts very set in their habits on here really helps it survive since community mainstays don't just disappear because their interests change.
