Yeah well, Australians in general seem to have a bad reputation as provincial douchebags on the internet. The OP isn't helping. I'm sure his little country with a population the size of LA's metro area in a land area the size of the entire continental US is a wonderful place, what with all those surveillance cameras on every city street, photo radar cameras on every highway, a monarch that lives on the other side of the world, and a lack of freedom of speech protections that allows its government to have the highest censorship rate in the developed world. I'll stay here with our poor, thank you very much.

Cost of housing is pretty expensive in the higher end due to rich folks from Sydney buying up vacation house and condos. Compared Perth to Sydney is like comparing NYC to St.Louis.
And before ridiculing the US, come and see how folks in Perth treat the Aborigines. Will open a lot of eyes on Aussie's racism.

There's a reason why Perth is considered redneck territory by those who lived in the East.

People buy vacation homes in St. Louis? I would say Miami or Tampa etc would make a better comparison if that is the case.

Wait. Why are rich Australians buying up vacation houses and condos instead of helping the poor of that country? Don't they care?

Nope, comparing Perth and what it could possibly offered to what Sydney has to offer, is like comparing NYC and St. Louis

I'm sure variances in standard of living have nothing to do with that. Or the fact that only a tiny percentage of workers actually even make the minimum wage in America.... hell, even Wal-Mart pays an average of more than $10/hour.

Do you socialist ilk even know WHY you're such stupid brainwashed sheep? It's easy. If you had a room with 100 people, a few of home were wealthy, most of whom were middle-class, a couple were working poor, but then this one homeless bum who voluntarily refused to work (and I volunteer at homeless shelters, there are far more of these than you could possibly know), you'd point at that one bum and use his singular example to scream chicken little about wealth inequality.
Let me clue you in. You're not a liberal. You're not even progressive. You're just scared little sheep looking for reasons to be scared. "OMG we're all gonna die because I read it on the internet!"

I saw the American poor with own eyes. I've been to New York and California and I saw large numbers of homeless people sleeping on the streets. Why is this happening to the most powerful country in the world?

You are generalizing America as a whole, by referencing New York and California. Those are two of the U.S's highest populated areas.

If I place 1000 toilets on the ground, and stand in a tree and take a piss, I have a damn good chance of hitting one of them. Thats how this relates to your "homeless" in New York and California generalization.

How stupid are you? All I did was mention that the difference between state and federal minimum wages is $0 in 21 states and you called me a socialist? Just FYI I am against all types of welfare, unless the person is disabled. If you can walk and talk you can work.

Only $10/hour? That's pathetic, our BigW store (Wal-Mart equivalent) pays $19/hour (more for nights) for cashiers.

I hope you're not saying what it seems like. Surely you're not so stupid as to believe that any of that is actually free, right? Basically, you're just excusing the rich to pay their taxes and then wash their hands of the poor. That's deplorable.

No No No. malG claims that you can find homeless people on many of the streets in America. He has no basis or statistics for this claim but he's a socialist from Australia so he must be right.

They would tear apart the one house that the rich guy has, and everyone in the room would have a sheet of plywood over their head! We would have equity then! Wrong, we would just have one more homeless guy.

Seems to me the people who have the most are both people who understand economics the best and have the most. Just a theory of mine.

Funny how the socialists want people with lots of money to give it away, but they don't want anybody who doesn't already have it to get their in the first place so they are in a position to give it away.

Total wealth envy, period.

Uh huh... except for differences in exchange rate and the fact that, in America, employment benefits come out on top of wages while in Australia, benefits are taken out of wages through taxation. And suddenly, the pay is very comparable.

People like you never seem to realize that your little quasi-socialism you love so much is actually pro-corporate economic fascism. What you've done is allow the corporations to externalize all their social burdens onto the government and hence the taxpayers. And you love it! Way to go, dude!

While plenty of Aborigines are treated like cancerous retards everyday by the the denizens of Perth. Quite ironic eh?

:D

I hope malG doesn't always "judge a book by its cover" for everything, including our "homeless".

I'd be willing to wager, that 1 out of every 3 or 4 of our so called "homeless" are posers anyway.. You know those ones that stand at the intersections, holding up their "Homeless, Please Give Me A Dollar" signs, while dressed up in battered clothing in the day.. but, at the end of the day, they're out of sight.. not really homeless

I bet they make a pretty good wage doing that!

The fact that most states in the US mandate a minimum wage higher than federal had already been addressed in this thread.
