Do you exhibit these sorts of things in other areas, eg tolerance of pain, extreme temperatures, fatigue, ability to function for days without sleep, etc? Look up something called mind over matter.
Im in the same boat. When I drink, I am aware of the physical effects on my body but my mind and willpower is always there. Drinking isn't fun for me, I just feel trapped inside my own body as my body is mechanically shut down by chemicals and disconnected from my brain while I'm 100% "up there" still.
You can't stop the physical and mechanical effects of certain substances. A tranquilizer WILL put you down against your will with sufficient dose for example; your mind after all exists in a physical organ substrate known as the brain and it will biologically cease proper operation in the right conditions regardless how great your control is. But most normal things you are subconsciously ignoring via willpower; what you think or want is what is. Its like staying up for 5 days non stop. Most people will quit and don't have the mind over matter control to do it. Others can do it without thinking about it, and continue to be alert and fully functional, more so than a normal rested person, up until their physical body collapses from retarded cell replacement and depleted ATP.
Yeah you can go to sleep after two energy drinks because you WANT to (mind over matter), but you are going to find it annoying and having to tolerate discomfort (mind over matter), and you're going to feel like shit in the morning, but still be able to get up and pretend you are ok (mind over matter) with your heart trying to beat it's way out of your rib cage all night (unavoidable biological consequence).
It's all in the mind. Most people suffer the inverse of the same mind over matter principle, and this is the root of something we call 'addiction'. They have one cup of coffee or one soda and fly off the walls talking about how much they love caffeine and drag their ass when they didn’t have it, when in reality the amount is insignificant to justify their difference in behavior (eg: it's in their mind that they need caffeine, a placebo effect). How many times do you run into someone who takes a sip of coffee or soda and immediately perks up as if it affected them instantly?
