how come Acura in the states? and Honda elsewhere?

why they change the name?

most of the place they have

Honda Accord
Honda Integra
Honda Legend
Honda Civic
Honda Prelude?
but then how come sunddenly became acura in the states?

Because in the US, we like to feel "special" so they give us "special" names.

Acura is just Honda's "luxury" marque like Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, Ford/Lincoln, etc.

i.e.

Acura TL = Honda Accord with different interior/body and beefed up engine.
Acura CL = Honda Accord Coupe and same as above

I think their concern was that many traditional, older luxury-car buyers in the US would associate the Honda name with inexpensive econo-cars, making it tough to build market share for their ritzier models (similar deal with Infiniti and Lexus). It certainly seems to have worked well enough, and Lexus in particular has maybe the best reputation for quality of any carmaker.

Its all brand-image.

In europe they call it the Chrysler Viper.
In japan, almost every nissan car has a totaly different name.
