CkG - you're arguing over semantics when it is the entire case for war that is at issue.

Maybe - but the truth of the matter is that people here are misrepresenting what Bush said. The Truth is that he never said Iraq was an "imminent threat" - but people and the press ran wild with it. I'm sorry if you people felt duped - but it wasn't what he said.

When you say the truth of the matter what you mean is that you have taken a really important topic and teased out some irrelevant tiny and insignificant part of it and created a gigantic noise around it to which you pretend there is meaning. You are probably the most empty headed, idiotic, superficial sophist I have ever had the pleasure of being insulted by. You are, as we say today, completely out to lunch. You are like a fly that buzzes on a window pain. You have the gift of drivel.

:)
Don't just stand there and smile. Open the f*cking window. ;)

I've tried to let it out. It enjoys being swatted. Kind of like the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "No you didn't. It's just a flesh wound."

Given that we claimed to KNOW Iraq had WMDs, how did we KNOW he had them if we didn't know WHERE THEY ARE?

exactly...

if iraq had WMD that would effect the US it would be easy to find. no matter how big iraq is.

we are not talking about a small RPG.

if they have WMD that can reach the US you would need a huge rocket and the platform to launch it. which is not going to be small.

with all the satalites that we have on iraq there should have been no problem with locating such things.

How does the fact that the weapons can harm us, make it easier to find? If it's on a platform or not, there are PLENTY of spaces to hide WMD, chemicals and what not..

I still can't get this out of my head... Why did they chemical weapons suits? They knew that we wouldn't use them.

He had ample time to hide them, ANYWHERE in the country.
Chemical suits are used for oil drilling also

This has all been hashed to death before, but two quick points. Re. hiding the alleged WMDs, remember Bush & Co. said "we know where they are." That was a lie, they didn't know, possibly because they didn't exist. It is possible Iraq could have hidden some of the WMDs, maybe even most of them. They could not hide all of them successfully if they had the massive stockpiles claimed by the Bush administration. Some would have turned up by now.

Re. the chem suits, you're thinking too hard. We know Iraq had and used chemical and biological weapons in the past. We know one of Iraq's past enemies, Iran, used B/C weapons. Therefore, like any well-equipped army, Iraq had appropriate chemical suits. Even if Iraq had destroyed every last drop of chemical and biological agents, there's no reason they would throw away their expensive chem suits. They might need them in the future, if Iran attacked again, for example.

Second, this war wasn't advanced on the theory that he used to have it and hasn't been able to show that he got rid of it. One of the many alternative theories on which it was advanced was that he had weapons of mass destruction. If you read the foreign press, most of the world thought that this was nonsense. Score at the end of six months: Rest of the world 1, Bush Administration 0.

Actually, one of the main pieces of evidence was what he said (that there is no proof they got rid of them). You just listen to CNN too much and thus don't get the whole story. This all started because Iraq wasn't complying with weapons inspectors, not that we just arbitrarily said "THEY HAVE WEAPONS!!!".
