The sound you hear is normal, you've finally just noticed it. It's actually the horizontal retrace which runs at something like 47KHz if I remember right. It's just a high pitched whine that's faint because it's just outside of normal audio response for most human ears. Every CRT does this, some at different frequencies. But it's normal.
I've been able to walk into a house and tell you if a TV or monitor was on for the last 25 years just because of this.
