Once it takes off (if it takes off), you riiiide your way to the top. See: Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Gates.
You're including Gates in there? That better be the first William Gates, the Banker. Bill of Microsoft fame came from an incredibly wealthy family. His private HS tuition was more than his Harvard tuition.

Oh, so Gates inherited his billions from his family? His hard work and ambition had nothing to do with it?

Could be cool to have a bunch of cash.

It boggles my mind what two local doctors did. They got together and bought some land and houses in a nice area. Several acres that were joined and had 2 houses on them (talking 150-200k).

The GI surgeon burns the house down that is on his side, lets the fire department practice on it. I go in to see him a few weeks after he does it. Then he asks me if he can get a tax deduction for it...must be nice to have enough $$$ that you think about tax consequences after the fact.

The other doc (Lasik surgery stuff) furnished the house on his side for their 4 sons. She built a 12,000 sq. foot house. And has the 2nd house for her boys to "play" in. Have sleepovers, etc (all are 15 and under). And their play house is nicer than 80% of the houses in the area.

Just insane. But hey, they can do what they want.

The average person doesn't have as much money as you think they do. They just manage it very poorly.

that book is pure crap. what's the meaning of life when you save for 50 years so you cannot enjoy a lot of things in life when you are 60+? I read that book twice, just so I don`t sound like an ass when I talk about it, but that book is pure crap. And most millionaires don`t become millionaires by saving for 50 years. They become millionaires because they worked hard, invested cleverly and made wise decisions. Eating tuna 3-4 days a week, buying your clothing from Cheapomart and riding a 1988 Honda Accord for 20 years is not the life I want. Take it, it's yours.

The ones who appear and act rich usually aren't. The real rich people that worked for and earned their wealth blend in with normal people.

There's a lot of rich people here in Johnson County, KS(I wish I was one of them:(), but there's also a lot of people that aren't but act it. When I was still in school and worked at Circuit City back in it's commission days I'd get people that would drive up in their big Benz, had flashy clothes, nice jewelry, etc., looking to buy the biggest/nicest/most expensive plasma TV/laptop whatever, and would get denied on a credit application.

Then there's the opposite of that. One of my favorite customers I had, that was a guy that would always come back when he needed something, was completely normal guy. He was always in jeans, tennis shoes, a tshirt or polo or something, always shopped around, rarely bought the most expensive there was, just bought what he needed. He was super down to earth, great to talk to, genuine nice guy. Never once did I think he was rich. Later I found out he was a bigshot international business man and is worth millions.

I'm all about being smart and saving money, but I'm not going to lower my quality of life just to have a few extra bucks in the bank when I'm 70.
